Vols trending Down (247 article)

Funny how the ONLY SOURCE named was Hood. I don't trust "unnamed" sources in sports or politics. If you want to say something then be man enough to give your name. Otherwise keep your mouth shut.

Ironic seeing as we are all opining anonymously...

Well, if CBJ does some soul searching and makes the tough changes to himself that will be a great improvement. I recommend he take some leadership courses and study the great ones. Start with Coach Gen Robert Neyland, add in Patton, Bradley and Ronald Reagan. Study their strengths, weaknesses and how they channeled their charisma to unite around a common theme/goal/mission. Then work on building your confidence back up. The worse thing you can do is walk around being indecisive and second guessing yourself.

Some new coaches, especially S&C coach will definitely help too.

For the Love of Pete can we get a QB Coach?

And remember, no matter how good and important individual players are, do not practice favoritism and Leadership needs to be established by the players, not by anointing them!

GBO!

Jones certainly isn't obliged to talk to the guy as others have stated.

OTOH, there IS something to be said for getting out in front of a story. Another way to handle it is for the media relations dept. and Jones to grant access to the guy. Jones can sit down and discuss what he CAN discuss.

For instance, he's not going to be able to say why the S&C coach was demoted, then released. However, he could say, "It was a decision I thought was best for our football team moving forward." Or something like it.

I could go on with examples, but that's the gist.

This story is not a surprise to anyone at UT, they have known it was in the works for weeks and they also knew that Haney was quoting sources and basically what they were saying and this was the choice those at UT made, so make of it what you will.

It's reminiscent of their handling of the Title IX issue, where they knew about it for months before it became public, on a much smaller scale, obviously.

*The amount of turnovers -

No one is coached to fumble the ball

*Players leaving/pushed out -

Players left Alabama this year too. Downward trend?

*Constant bad press from cliche talk -

"Champions of life" was taken to mean something that it was not originally intended to. He was talking about graduating and succeeding in life not that we had won some kind of championship obviously. It sounded funny so media and other teams jumped on it. Big deal. "1-0 each week" is something that many coaches say in one form or another from peewee to the highest level. I have heard a variation of that many times when I played. It keeps teams from looking ahead or from falling apart after a loss. Coaches use cliches, nothing new.

*Vandy/South Carolina -

Questionable calls in those games cost us so I can't defend the losses. They are the main reason why Butch is on the hot seat for 2017 and why your argument against Butch is gaining momentum. If he has losses like these in 2017 you will get your wish.

*Started in top 10, tumbled
-

to 21. Lower but considering the high expectations and injuries, not outrageous. A win over Nebraska would put us near the top 15.

*Blew the SEC east -

See previous comments about Vandy/USC

I don't believe we are seeing a downward trend yet. We could just be looking at a bad year with unfortunate injuries. Failure in 2017 would begin to show a trend and if there ever is a definite downward trend, Butch will be gone and I will be on board

Not that you're advocating it, but Tennessee shouldn't be a place for on the job training. Unfortunately, it has become that.

Agreed. But I'm more concerned with where we are right now, and that's with the coach that is having a learn how to deal with a program like this at this level.

So as long as he's here I'm going to hope that he figures that out and continues to learn from his mistakes.

I stopped reading half way through. Unnamed sources used to write articles like this almost always wind up causes mud on the face. This borderlined on obsurd!

Because true "inside information" that is shared in private is typically not meant to be shared on a public message board. That is how you lose your right to be privy to "inside information".

Funny how one anonymous source is judged differently than another anonymous source. :p
