Bye bye Butch - Purdue bound (message board rumor)

No chance! Would we want him back if the roles was reversed. No way, no how! Take all these bricks he's laid and build him a small house far far away.

If I were the head coach here I would look to leave whenever I had an equal opportunity to go elsewhere. We don't have a supportive fan base and nobody will ever be supported more than a few years. Also if I were a coach I would not want to come here unless I used it for a stepping stone. When Manning said he would not want to coach at Tennessee because whenever he made one wrong move half the people would cease liking him it was more than a tongue in cheek comment.

What the hell does Peyton Manning know?

Had Butch won every game except bama and a&m, won the east which he should have, been competitive in the sec championship game, went on to the sugar bowl there would have been outstanding support for him! When he pissed away South Carolina and Vanderbilt, why should the fan base be satisfied, to lose a game you shouldn't once every 5 years is one thing but he lost 2 down the stretch and gave away the sugar bowl. To not question the direction of the program is a mistake. People need to face the fact Butch has done a good job but is not a championship level coach.

Completely inaccurate. Several of our trusted insiders have stated Purdue was very much on the table. Now weather that was because Butch wanted to leave or was looking for more money, I don't know. My opinion is the latter.

Come on, man. More money? At Purdue? They couldn't afford his buyout nor his per year salary.

I know the ship has sailed but my heart skips a beat every time this thread gets bumped, then the faint glimmer of hope gets snuffed when I open it.

If any FBS school gives him an offer, he's gone.

He's always had a short shelf life at all of his stops, and he's truly not happy here right now.

Where to start.

Jones has demonstrably improved the program. That is the big picture, but a bunch of crackers have overreacted to the disappointing conclusion to this season and created a lot of negativity with all their absurd ranting and calls for a coaching change. We need to stay the course--that is the best thing for UT football. We need to sack H. Warlick, like, yesterday, but Jones should be supported.

I'd start with ex players. There's a lot of them wanting change and not very happy either.

None of which are in the NFL.. just saying. They are all VFLs and I respect that, but it seems like they feel they have an axe to grind because their careers didn't pan out as desired.

I'm not just talking about players that played for Butch.

Yeah I'm sure those that played in the 70s are still miffed about it. Need a goat.

Ah, gotcha. Well I haven't seen any outside of the Dooley/Butch era calling for change.. although I'm sure there are one or two. So I think your assertion that "a lot are upset" may be a little off.
