Is Helfrich @ OC a legit discussion?

Mariota coached by Chip Kelly, Helfrich was Kelly's puppet. As soon as the Kelly players started graduating Oregon started going down, really to some extent before. Look up Helfrich's bio he has been so so to sub par everywhere he's been. Don't want....He's just not HC material some are not.Now Butch may hire him like Kelly did to be a yes man. He's at best a 7 and 5 or 6 and 6 coach..

They're 19th in total offense this year. Offense is not their problem.

And the thread is clearly about OC.

Look, I'm not an insider. I've read a lot today, and it seems it's a discussion . If I didn't think it wasn't worthy of talking about I wouldn't bring it up..

guess everything is up for discussion even though the same subject has been addressed in several other threads already...like to see Chuck Smith come back to help out Shoop on defense...see, more discussion...:)

GO VOLS!

I read the other thread about him and really do not put much stock in it.
Just how many great hires has been made at UT in all sports over the years? You can count on one hand and have fingers left over.

Yeah, after Pat, 0.

As discussed in another thread from an insider that usually has good info, there have been informal third party talks between Helfrich and UT. Not my words, just passing along what I read.

That being said, Helfrich would be an awesome hire. Offense has never been a problem for Oregon.

If he is wanting to have a chance for HC position when Butch is gone yeah but if he is here just to be Butch's OC? No because Butch is a short timer.

If helfrich comes here and Butch wins 10 games.... Butch will get an extension. Hate to rain on your parade.

Lo freaking l. You think Butch is gonna change anything if no one leaves? You think he's gonna handover his offense to someone else? What have you seen to give you that idea? Even if DeBord leaves, he'll just promote Azzanni to OC and Sheridan to QB coach.

Butch doesn't think anything is wrong with his system

The new AD might see something wrong. I'm sure the new ad will have a meeting with Butch and probably let him know what the expectations are...and probably point out some areas that need changing.

If helfrich comes. No reason not to think this is Blackburn working behind the curtains

Nope, just internet talk. Unfortunately our society has come to believe that the more the same thing is said on the internet the more it's likely to be true, when in fact it s Judd people talking and tweeting the same stuff.

There is legitimacy and mutual interest between the two parties. Just have to see if there would be anyway possible to make a deal work. If they did Mark Helfrch would be a huge hire

Ever see that M.A.S.H. episode where Mulcahey [sp?] gets drunk and is saying "jocularity jocularity"?
I'm reminded of this every time I log in here. "Speculation speculation"

Funny and entertaining...........I guess. It must be. I keep coming back. :)

Assuming Jones would let him have control, then yes it would be.

You have to think that Jones must know that if he fails here, he will never find another job where he can make this much money. Even the most stubborn of people become more compromising when they see their payday disappearing right before their eyes.

Helfrich is Oregon born and never been further east than Colorado in his coaching career.

I'll believe it when they sign the contract.

Our offense sputtered several times early but they had to bale out defense quite a bit. I think our defense is the problem. Our offense did not get us beat vs Vandy.

Similar offense. Deboard will have to retire and Botch will have problems letting go. That will be his downfall.

Well, if he were ever to come on down and give it a shot, East Tennessee is where he'd wanna be.
Geographically, it doesn't get any better than the Smoky Mountains anywhere else south of the Mason-Dixon line, not even close either.

Nobody worth his salt is coming to coach with the dead man walking.

The jig is up...the coaching community has Butch's number.

I think you're right about most candidates, but a guy like Helfrich is a perfect candidate to hitch his wagon to a potential lame duck coach.

He was just fired, and his stock, especially as a head coach has never been lower. What better way to rehab your reputation than to come into a program that needs to be fixed? If he succeeds, he likely has better options in 2018 whether Butch survives or not.

This pairing, if it happened, is a rehab project, both for Butch Jones and Tennessee as well as Helfrich. Helfrich may even be a HC candidate if CBJ were fired or left after next season.

This one actually makes sense without respect to Helfrich's geographic history.

Nice post.

Helfrich has an $11M+ buyout with Oregon that pays him monthly through Jan 2020. I'm sure that helps with any anxiety he might have over being one-and-done at UT. It's not like he's going to go to rely on unemployment to put food on the table. The buyout gives him time to fix his reputation. Wouldn't be the first to do it.

Personally I think it would be an awesome hire. But Helfrich is a former HC and has a strong personality toward the type of offense that he wants to run. He's not enough of a "yes" man for Butch to bring him in. He will get picked up quickly though. If history is any indication likely by one of our rivals too. We always squander good coaches and watch them go to oppposing teams.
