Does anyone else see the irony in this statement? If we have great depth, then we can withstand a few injuries.

Your lineup does solve the problem of a lack of speed at LB and S on defense. Kirkland, Sapp, and Kelly will be a much bigger upgrade at LB over this year and hopefully Bituli can develop as well. DL does not have a speed rusher (BIG problem)and it's starting to look like McKenzie and Tuttle are injury prone. Who is behind them?

On offense, unless there is a LOT of individual improvement, the OL will still be the biggest liability to the program. Dobbs hid a lot of problems with his ability to scramble. Also, Wolf will need to improve a lot on blocking and in the "throw game". The WRs will need to develop quickly but that hasn't been the case over the last few years.

Until, Vols get more speed producing plays at LB and DB and develop dominating lines on both sides of the ball, they are destined to seasons like this. Next year looks like this year at this point.

Hype train gettin' fueled up early for 2017. Pre-season spring championship rankings are out, and UT is a unanimous number 1!

A lot of folks don't want to hear it, but the 2017 Vols could be really good. Obviously, they'll need much better luck with injuries. On defense, they need to build more depth at DT and hopefully Shoop gets to bring in his own coaches. Shoop's resume and reputation tells you that he can get the job done. On offense, I think they definitely can improve at QB with Dormady or Guarantano (JG is the most talented guy on the roster at QB). Dobbs was great, but I think his on-field awareness was lacking (didn't see open receivers and often made wrong decision on RPO plays) but he was talented enough to overcome it most of the time. There's a lot of experience on the o-line and a good new o-line coach could do wonders. Kelly is great and Fils-aime will be good and Ty Chandler could really make that group strong. I actually think Azzani does ok with the receivers and that group will be fine.

There is a lot of potential for 2017. It's up to Butch to make the right changes. He'll sink or swim based on his choices these next two months. Next season will either be Butch's breakout season or his last at UT. I don't see much in-between. Even if it goes south, the next coach will have more to work with because of Butch and it will be a desirable job (as long as the next AD is a good one...hopefully Blackburn).

Well, Bub, those 4 can't play every single down. You have to rotate consistently. I stated starters not the only 4 playing every down. So, yes, provided no injuries they will be loaded across the line

There will be more depth because of all the backups that played a ton!!! Provided everyone is back healthy that was out..........

QB will be better

If QB will be better why not start him instead of Dobbs?

Jones won't put his fate in the hands of a Freshman.

It will be QD

JG, has not thrown a pass in college football, and Butch has a record of putting the senior player in instead of the better player. He may be the second coming, but no one knows, and it's not certain that he will start over Dormady.

As far as depth goes, reps are great, but if the coaching staff is not developing the talent, then the experience is useless.

Not sure how you can move Jennings, our best WR to defense when WR will already be super thin depth wise. I wouldn't mind seeing him get some snaps on both sides of the ball, but moving him permanently to defense would be a turrible move.

It's a better move than watching teams run sweeps over and over because our LB and S are too slow to get over there. And it's a better move than watching WRs run past our safeties on deep passes.

To be honest, until Tennessee develops line play on both sides of the ball, they will not play for championships. Also, they need a huge upgrade on speed at LB and DB over what they had this year.

I don't think so you stinkin' Gator. I think the point is that there is enough talent to be every bit as successful as the potential for 2016. There should be no excuse for any of the coaches outside a lack of their own short-comings.
