The loss of the Gaddy twins is big. I don't care if it was grades or not. It is still a failure because we are not where we need to be at DT. That's a developmental position and you can't add instant impact players easily at DT because there are very few that exist and they are so highly coveted.

Big loss any way you slice it. We need defensive tackles!

Not taking any DTs last year was a big mistake. Not Dooley level with the OL, but still can't do that in the SEC.

Bruin, why do you continue to defend Butch at this point? The writing is on the wall that he is not the answer here- he was a band aid that we needed at the time. He has now become a national joke with his botching games and stupid champions in life cliches. He isn't even hiding the fact that he is OPENLY looking at other job opportunities, what other coach is doing that and not even trying to hide it? That is a slap in the face to us fans- this was supposed to be a great season and when he failed, he gets his feelings hurt and wants to go somewhere else because he can't handle the criticism that is fairly due. How is he selling that to recruits and their families? The S--T he preaches to the media and fans, he doesn't practice himself. He's a hypocrite who thinks he's a great coach and can't take the fact that the media and now most of the fans see him for what he really is.

I saw it as speculation, but I now wonder if Rutmeier is a legitimate option. Kind of makes sense.

It's what he does. If most of the posters here were singing his praises, he'd be tearing Butch down. It's kinda his thing.

You know why. Because NO ONE else is and he loves to play contrarian.

I actually agree with a few things he says- not everything. The problem now with situations like this is that people don't like Butch so much that they flat out disagree with everything he does, whether they believe it or not. Just the way emotions go. I am disappointed with the product on the field, but I don't dislike Butch as a man. People get caught up with things he says, and I have ignored that for a couple of years.

Picked up this nugget of truth from the FF

-----
LSU was ranked 5th in the Pre Season. Stanford was 8, Notre Dame was ranked 10th, just behind us. Ole Miss 11th. TCU was ranked 13th...

But I guess Jones and Tennessee are the only team in the country who didn't meet expectations.

we need butch to stay and try to do the best job possible atleast until the new ad is settled in. lose butch now and we get a worse than band aid hire with hart leaving. be patient support butch and hope that we get a home run athletic director and he can bring in fulmer and other vfls to help find the right guy when the time comes. that time is not now. we need the stability butch represents for now.

As far as the injuries, I think we are going continue to see them unless we get depth like Alabama. They can plug their 5 star 3rd stringer in and not miss a beat giving everyone necessary rest.
UF was banged up, LSU was, a lot of programs had significant injuries.
My uncle is a doc, and former D1 linebacker for Marshall. He works in ortho and works with a lot of athletes and is a firm believer that the muscles have far surpassed the ligaments and tendons from a developement pov. Right down to hs training programs being more strenuous and developed, avail OTC growth supplements, and the hormones and products in the food we eat.
You take all of that, along with a gauntlet of SEC schedule and a semi tough OOC schedule, and kids that play all out, injuries are gonna happen!! UNLESS, you have the depth of a team like Bama. Plain and simple.
With depth like that, there's no need for Cam Sutton to be on special teams, no need for JRM to be in a game late and tired, no need for Oline to start a game already banged up, and so on.
Preaching to choir I know, but that's the only way injuries are not going to be an issue.

Some of the responses to CBJ's tweet are reprehensible.

I hate losers with phones that say things on social media that they would never say in public.

I wish they knew how petty and juvenile they looked.

It incredible. The man has invested untold hours into the team that we enjoy. He lost a couple of games this year that he shouldn't have, and is belittled by simpletons.

I'm with you. We're all disappointed, but I respect the man, and his position, regardless of some on field failures

The vast majority of fans want CBJ stay and the media loved Clinton and hated Trump. You be the judge on how well the media judges a person's ability to do the job.

The problem is people can't separate real life tragedy with disappointment on the football field.

Stand down

This reeks of rational thinking. I'll report you if this crap persists

If CBJ left or was fired, which isn't happening, but IF, I'd love to see Fulmer step in for 1 year as an interim HC and then have a real, legit coaching search like OSU did before hiring Meyer.

What do you guys think was the primary problem with the defense this year? In particular, how do you think Bob Shoop failed to produce his normal kind of results with arguably significantly better talent?

Did Butch interfere?
Did Shoop spend too much time teaching/investing in starters who got injured?
Did Shoop need more freedom to hire his own position coaches?

Any takers on these questions? I personally would like to see Shoop have another season or two to get this ball rolling. There is no way he produces at Vandy and Penn State and suddenly becomes terrible when he comes to Tennessee.

I agree, I think Butch settling this down and giving it one more shot is best for the program.

That would give the new AD time to come in, evaluate what type of coach we need if there is a change needed and would also give Butch a chance to right the ship and us never have to go through a search at all.

I am honestly pretty positive Butch is not the long-term answer, but still think his record is good enough to not be fired, YET.
