Y'all are forgetting that we would actually have to make the FG. Our heralded kicker had already squared one off the the right upright in the second half.

That's why we have a good backup. Toser was a highly rated Kicker in HS (#1 in the state).

Why that kid hasn't gotten a look is kinda baffling.

Granted probably not the best spot for him to get his first attempt

I said in the game thread that Little Aguayo probably one best kickers in country for FSU Was benched by Jimbo in UF game bc of lack of execution.

Why is kicker any different from any other position with a depth chart

Hey, we had enough confidence in our kicker to try a 58 yarder... 🤕

Concerning the end of the game management versus Vandy:

We had three timeouts with around two minutes. Most coaches would have had field goal team ready and sent them out immediately and taken the three with such a short fg attempt.
Then it would have been about 1:45 left with 3 timeouts. Then you must choose to onside kick or kick deep and use 3 timeouts on defense.
With our inability to stop Vandy, probably onside kick. Either way at least you still have a chance. As we all know, if you fail to convert on 4th down then game over.

I've thought that. But I've also thought last year's squad was starting to show tendencies that carried over to this year. You may recall the first half of the Vandy game and the first quarter of the bowl game were completely frustrating debacles. Penalties, misaligned defenses, etc. But we righted the ship relatively quickly and blew them both out...

You fail to score a TD later in the game after they punt or recover the inside kick...game over.

It was 4th and 3. Outside of the 10. So Even if you got the 1st , how many plays would you have to waste to score that TD? How many timeouts would you have to waste?

THe most egregious error was actually wasting time before calling the timeout.

You know, I thought people would actually remember and acknowledge the actual situation. You did it that last night. I make mention earlier today that most knew he should have kicked the FG. That was really dumb of me. Glad you laid it out again for even the most argumentative, self centered, ego maniacs to read and pretend they don't understand again. :)

The second that 4th and 3 failed, the game was over.

No mention on here, at least in the time I have committed to this thread, of the doink inside 40 yards by Medley that had it been made would have changed game situations as well.

I personally think Butch figured, what the he!l, let's just have Dobbs scamper around and wing it around the ballyard and see what happens. I think he was pretty checked out after Medley muffed that field goal. I don't think he was much into strategery at that point, for better or worse.

First UT head coach to beat Florida in 12 years. First UT head coach to lose twice to Vandy in 90 years.

What a baffling tenure he's had on Rocky Top.

So if butch stays, debord "resigns" and shoop bails, which i think could really all happen. Who would yall want as our new coordinators? Id like us to gun for Conklin from pitt as DC. Rising star and former UT assistant. and Sterlin Gilbert from texas now that hes out of a job. I really liked the texas offense this year.

It honestly doesn't even matter at this point. No coordinators worth a damn are going to come coach for a lame duck head coach.

The point is to extend the game and improve your chances of winning. Of course the game will eventually be over. You just try to extend the game as long as you can.

Even with a failed onside kick, they would have still had three timeouts and a chance to force a punt. If they punt, you never know what could happen with Cam returning a punt.

It is just unwise to waste a scoring opportunity and a timeout.
