No where close to the same. Very poor comparison and the good that jones has done doesn't deserve that.

I agree that he is much better than dooley. But we just lost to Vandy and SC. Next year we lose to Bama and LSU for sure. Are you confident that we beat Florida and Ga again? GT? Then if he drops another to Vandy or someone else?

I in no way would concede the LSU game. Next year depends on the QB position. If that is a success the offense could be special.

Defensively we just need a fresh start. We aren't seeing the real Potenial of players out there. They are lost literally and confidence wise. Sutton even sucks right now. They could very easily end up being a decent defense next year. Just need to be like the 2015 version to win 9-10 games next year.

I agree. Butch got us out of a huge mess. Keeping him all while knowing recruiting will suffer and he's canned next year has the decent roster we have now in jeopardy IMO.

I don't think recruiting is going to suffer as badly as we are acting like here. Trey smith changes that mind set next week.

Maybe I've gone off the deep end, but I don't have any confidence that the offense can be special. I just watched them basically waste Kamara for 2 years and misuse Dobbs in several games as well. I'm not confident that JG or Dormady are being developed either. Offensive line will be more experienced, but better?

He isn't Dooley. He's ten times the coach and recruiter. Can't destroy overnight what he has done.

This loss changes things though. What does his staff look like next year? Will he be on hot seat lists? How does this class finish?

I've always thought next year's roster was a more complete roster. But no doubt this loss impacts Butch's program greatly.

I'm with you. With how things have turned, I'd be worried our streak of having no eight loss seasons would be in jeopardy next fall. Don't get me wrong - we have talent coming back. But so did the 2012 Vols. Next year's team will be playing under a microscope and Butch will be coaching with assistants he'll have to hire from the island of misfit toys.

UT fanbase has a large chunk of ungrateful fans. No doubt on that.

With or without CBJ. This fanbase is rabid and has more than it's fair share of irrational loons.

LOL. Get off it man. No coach is here for intrinistic reasons, or to do us favors. At this level all coaches are extremely well compensated, and the UT fan base's demeanor is no different from others.

It's not just the losses, its all the other things as well. Are they using the players in the best way? Kamara wasted for 2 years. Catering to Hurd even when it was clear he didn't want to be here. The lack of development at some positions like LB, OL and DB. The fact that the players sound like they have lost all confidence in him after the things they said last night. And that he is a national joke. There is not one other coach in college football who is more mocked than he is. It happened last year and it is worse this year. And with that, our program is also the joke of college football. The media swarmed like sharks on a feeding frenzy. Do you think recruits who see all of this are excited to come play for Butch? These are real concerns.

Exactly. He just took our best roster in over a decade to 8-4 and the laughingstock of college football. Injuries are part of that. But in no way should we have lost last night, even with injuries. I don't think injuries had anything to do with that and they had little to do with the SC game. But all season long, from game one, we have struggled. There was not one complete game this season with the exception of maybe Tennessee Tech.

Except he's not. I ran the numbers a few months ago. The average player grade for Dooley and Butch recruits was exactly the same.

And Butch befitted from all those legacy guys, immediate playing time, and 30 man classes.

Agreed. He ran into a perfect storm with the 14 class being mostly legacies & tons of instate guys. Same to a lesser extent in 2015.

Last years class has some studs but overall disappointing & 17 class is pretty terrible.

Not claiming that.

UT fans are most vocal right now because they have been starved. Vol Twitter is a good example of passion turning into ugliness.

In other news, my brother-in-law (a reasonable Bama fan) told me this evening that the rumors are strong in Tuscaloosa that Saban's retirement is imminent. Not sure how imminent, but he said they are the strongest he's seen them. As we discussed the plight of the Vols, his wife complained that all of Alabama's winning has made college football boring to her. She wishes they'd lose every once in a while to make it fun again.

Ugh.

He has recruited better than Dooley. Not debateable.

Worst part of dooleys tenure was the shape he left roster in for the next coach. The O line especially.
