After a day getting over the embarrassment of last night, CBJ needs another chance. He needs to overhaul his staff, regroup, recruit strong and learn from his BS mistakes this year.
Canning him now would set us back imo. We all know UT won't shell out the $$ for a Saban type coach. If we see the same collapse next year as we did this, then it's time to move on.
I'm off the Butch train, and this season was a huge disappointment, but I say give him another year, and then reevaluate. Defensive staff needs replaced, apart from Dline coach tho like next week!!

But if he has another year and recruiting tanks and we go 8-4 or 7-5 again and he gets fired. That's another terrible recruiting class for 2018. Now the new coach comes in and has to rebuild. We go out and pony up and get a guy now, he has a talented roster to win now and can develop them as well. I believe that we only go backwards if he stays another year or 2. Going to be hard to get a great staff to come work here when he is the laughingstock of college football

Unrealistic expectations crowd you're talking to there butchna. In their mind, we just go and outbid Bama for Saban. Just like that.

Literally no one has mentioned that, and I doubt anyone believes it either.

There are multiple options between the extreme example of Saban and Butch Jones that I'd love to see as a chance of an upgrade.

Never said that...We always end up with cheap coaches. Kiffin, Dooley and Butch. Clearly we aren't doing it right. But keep defending this mess, please.

I know you say Kelly is your first choice but the trouble he left at Oregon, I want no part of. Mullin is my number 1. If he had a great recruiter with the way he coaches up an offense, it could be special.

I just think Kelly could get here and win day 1. But I'm with you on Mullen. Much easier to recruit here than to the wasteland that is MSU. He would have JG and tons of talent on offense to develop. He would win here. Look at what he did at MSU with a good QB.

I don't think he cares at this point. He was mentally checked out the entire second half last night and then left his team to take the heat with the media. The Sugar bowl was on the line against our instate rival and did you see him get purple or emotional once in the second half when the win was slipping away? NO. Instead he went for it on 4th like a moron instead of kicking the field goal. He's mentally checked out folks.

Butch usually gets into the media room about 15-20 minutes after a game. It is definitely less than that when the team loses.

Tonight, he was in the press room less than five minutes after the game ended.

There were about 12-14 media members in the room, but only about four or five of us ask questions. There were nine questions asked tonight. I asked three of them. A Vanderbilt beat writer asked two or three.

Most of the guys that ask questions after games weren't in there. TV people were in there, a good number of them, but only a few ask questions. Most of the time they don't in settings like post-game losses.

It's also worth noting Vanderbilt has an extremely unusual process to get from the box to the field. And, in a tight game like this we usually don't leave the box for the field until the game is over so we can post some content (not just us, but mostly everyone).

My take: Butch wanted to go early to get it over with. He's obviously unaware of the logistical problems of getting from the box to the press area on the field level. He answered every question asked of him.

Do I think he intentionally dodged most of the media that ask questions? No, it just worked out that way.

Yep. We aren't getting a tier 1 coach like Saban, Harbaugh, and Meyer.

But we keep rooting around in the tier 4 and tier 5 coaching bins.

Why can't we step up to at least tier 2? Those guys are capable of winning one national championship during a 10 year period.

I commented on the basis of ELITE...and Catbone more than "mentioned" it.

No, but I expect that Butch knows how the timing of the post game press conferences always work. The way he handled it was planned and cowardly. I don't really give two s**** whether the media gets their quotes, but a leader doesn't leave his team to explain his mess.

Did he even go in the locker room and address the team after the game?

Mullen's "elite"? Based on what?

I wouldn't say he's elite yet, but he has definitely shown the potential to be. Took a mediocre roster with a good QB to being number 1 in the country. Beat some really good teams. And that was at a crappy school like MSU. I think with his ability to develop players he could do well here. Much easier to recruit at UT and I think he could do wonders with JG.

Mark Richt is a good example of tier 2, maybe even Les Miles. But butch is a tier below them I agree.

Mullen is similar to James Franklin, except he's also a QB guru. The fact that he is still in Starkville is befuddling to me. Almost makes me wonder if there are some issues with him that most aren't privvy to.
