The AD hire just went from critical to life support critical for the future of Tennessee sports, especially football. I would hope the ridiculous embarrassing loss last night just knocked Gilbert or anyone else tied to the current program off the list. Blackburn is the only choice or we are heading to the abyss with the Browns due to bad leadership I am afraid. Right now Butch has no one basically above him about last night- he should have to answer for a lot on Monday since he cowards out of it last night.

I suspect it's more ingrained than just the "salaried administration." There is likely some reluctance to spend money among the real PTB whether it be Haslams, Anderson, Thornton or whoever.

It's just stunning that they see the success Saban, Meyer, and Harbaugh are having (and what Herman will likely have at Texas) and go "Nah, let's just keep digging in the dirt...we'll eventually find a diamond!"

It's like buying a cheap pair of shoes and thinking you saved money. In a year they will break down and look terrible, while the guy who spent 3 times as much will still be wearing his 10 years from now and they'll look perfect.

Most people learn from that experience the first time it happens, but our money guys never do .

You're an insufferable a**hat, Bruin.

That's why people (accurately) pen you as a troll.

No doubt this board will follow that timeline.

3 weeks from now it will be sunshine all day long here except from the regulars that keep it real.

Sunny and 70degrees is the forecast for the RF.

Apparently Orgeron has fired the special teams coach and locked up Dave Arranda, or it is close to being done.

Not so much reluctance to spend as wanting input into decisions. Hart flat-out refused booster feedback and his enemies soon outnumbered his friends. All big money comes with strings-- at every program.

Your saying we are going to see a lot of the Butch grinding his crotch during jazzercise gif every time we steal a 3 star from Troy st?

Ok, so help me out by telling me where the pressure comes from next year.

Maybe a healthy K-Mac, Tuttle, Phillips, Kongbo, Taylor to name a few. K-Mac when healthy takes up 2 OL. You don't think K-Mac and Tuttle, maybe Johnson will not be able to put pressure up the middle?

As usual, I think you are being more pessimistic than is called for..

I've defended Shoop in the past. And to an extent, I still think a first-year DC sustaining injuries to nearly the entire starting defense is a perfect storm. Having said that, this is unacceptable. You don't give up 45 to an anemic Vandy team. You don't get murdered by Kyle ****ing Shurmur. These are things that don't happen to good coordinators. There was a lot of speculation that we were a stepping stone for Shoop - that he was a mercenary, here to make bank for a year or two while he fortifies his resume for a shot at a head coaching gig. I hope he gets that idea out of his head. For now, he needs to prove that he's even a good DC away from James Franklin (never thought I'd say that).

I'm just about done with all of our defensive assistants. We have technical issues and missed assignments at all three levels of the defense. We lack talent at LB and CB. Bring in some coaches who can identify and sign elite talent, and then coach them into stars when they get here.

I don't have as many issues with the offense, but we need to emphasize ball security in the offseason. Too many turnovers. I don't really like our third down offense sometimes - too often, we throw short of the sticks in third-and-medium, expecting YAC when the opportunity just isn't there. Where is Jennings on plays like this? He has a large catch radius and will come down with the ball in traffic. I'd prefer to toss one up to Jennings, rather than throwing a two-yard pass to Croom and expecting him to get the other five on his own (which isn't his strength). At the very least, run the route to the proper depth. Also, I don't like the Jennings wildcat. You already have a QB who can run, and he probably runs better than Jennings. If you want to run this play, just run it with Dobbs. There are other ways to involve Jennings.

Ultimately, the next couple of months are important for this program. Shoop has a month to demonstrate that the defense will improve under his watch. Injuries or not, another horrible performance in the bowl game would be unacceptable. And the staff needs to recruit its ass off. A couple of our big targets announce this month, and my guess is that potential coaching changes may shift the makeup of this class as well. Still hoping for the upgrades that VQ mentions every so often, because we need them.

Go Vols.

good lord, here we go and it isn't even Monday yet-- now folks are making excuses of our performance, excuses for the coaches, and mentally preparing themselves for Butch staying another year... you guys have already moved on to looking at who we have at what position.... Geez that was quick!
This guy left his team in the presser last night. Left his team. If there was not already friction on the locker room before, don't think it won't be now. These kids will NOT play for a leader who runs and throws them under the bus.

It's really sad you post here so much acting like you know football. The jokes on you here.

Clearly Vandy played a soft bend but don't break defense in the second half and we weren't able to finish drives. They kept the ball in front of them giving us short plays and we made mistakes that killed drives. Somehow you saw a different game if you think differently or are just plain football ignorant.

Keep it up. You're entertaining in a Rodney dangerfield kind of way.

Nah. I think everyone is done with Butch.

I can 100% see you pivoting and being a staunch defender of him and this staff, however. You gotta get your arguments in somewhere. Gonna be boring for you if everyone starts agreeing around here.

UT is slow to react and cheap when it matters because the fans, donors and boosters allow it. The administration takes advantage of the unwavering loyalty and largesse of UT alums and supporters. Let season ticket sales slide, attendance dip and annual giving plunge-- and see what happens. Not selling out bowl game tickets would send a message.

Been saying this for years.

Who else out there is a proven commodity anywhere near the level of Saban, Meyer, or Harbaugh? Those guys are outliers. It's not just about the University being cheap. IMO, outside of the guys listed, the only HC's that are proven winners and worth offering $5 to $6 million per year right off the bat are Chris Petersen and Chip Kelly.

A couple of those guys had time to shine at the end of the year and didn't make much noise. Tuttle and KMack may be able to eat up blockers but that is their strength at this point, not as pass rush DTs. Just don't see it.

And yes I may be pessimistic but there isn't much reason to go the other way. Anyone optimistic about the defense next year as presently constructed is delusional.

Pessimistic about Butch Jones and don't care who knows it.

I just hope he follows his mate Debord wherever he ends up.

It's frustrating. We have the resources and facilities to be top 10 every year but we refuse to pay for real elite coaches. Makes no sense.

I totally agree with this. If Butch bounces like some are suggesting, the first call I make is to James Franklin and make him a huge offer. I think he would take it and wouldn't hesitate. The dude knows how to win!

Of course we'll find a way to f--- up any hire we have to make.

Just to be clear I am not done with Butch nor have I ever been.

I am done with the defensive staff as it is. Either fire Shoop or let him hire his guys. I am fine with the rest of the staff staying the same. If We get a new OL coach I would be ok with that but I want the rest of the offensive staff to stay.

Can't help but see Alvin Kamara while watching these highlights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDX8TIbsA74

Ridiculously great NFL career awaits that kid.

Welcome to the Alvin Kamara party.....you're about 2 years too late. Many were here while you were yucking it up with Jalen Hurd, pushing him as the best running back in the country. You completely missed/didn't see that Kamara was and has always been the better running back and pro prospect.

James Franklin would kill s--t here.

The Butchers had to psych themselves this morning up by painting their faces blue and white and giving speeches on horseback, but they are trickling in.

I learned my lesson the hard way straying in Dooley's corner even after the UK loss in 2011.

Writing is on the wall for Butch. Doesn't matter who he fires, what coordinators he brings in, how well he recruits..he's a below average head coach. Terrible game manager.

Then he pulls the chicken **** lastnight leaving before most of the media can even get to the presser letting Dobbs answer most of the tough questions Lol..I have no reason to support this clown.

I'll always support the program & want what's best for the team..and the sooner Butch gets out of Knoxville, the better.
