Curious what you think you accomplish by that. You don't even know if you are right or wrong or of the coaches are absolutely right on this kid. So why be negative? Great possibility you are wrong, and you cannot prove you are right.

McGill-Toolen QB Bubba Thompson de-commits from Auburn baseball, wants to play 2 sports | AL.com

SIAP: Good article on Thompson. Says he hasn't closed the door on AU if they offer in football. Ole Miss has also said he can play both sports and now UNC is calling him as well.

He is playing in the 7A title game next Wednesday vs Hoover. On the season he is completing 69% of his passes for 2,894 yards. 37 td's and 5 int's. He has also rushed for 500 yards and another 5 td's.

His coach says he missed a lot of time as a SO and JR with injuries. He also said his speed reminds him of Deion Sanders, who the coach played baseball with.

So he's equal to Winston? A Heisman winner and NC QB? Not buying it. Winston was sought after as a QB by all of CFB. Not this guy. This guy will need two SP's and a RS to be even close to being ready to play QB.

No, I'm just saying that he can play both sports in college and play below whatever potential he has. If he's a take at QB, he's a take regardless of if he chooses to play baseball or not

For those that apparently want to go back decades for examples - do they still run the veer, wishbone, etc.? Nope. Even the I is rarely used as the base offense. Football is much more sophisticated than it was back then. The same with baseball training. There are probably 50+ in this class rated higher than him. Playing both will not win games for UT, even if he gets a chance. Those recruited around him will relegate him to the scout team. If he dedicates to football only, it improves his chances.

Todd Helton was a pitiful example. He threw a grand total of 75 passes in his UT career at a 54.7 completion percentage for a grand total of 484 yards with a grand total of 90 yards rushing in 34 attempts. Dobbs beats that in 2 games. Condredge would last about 10 minutes against players today in these systems. Baseball would have ended up being his sport of choice very quickly.

I understand your point, but don't understand why you would waste a scholarship on somebody that would never see the field barring 3 QB's in front of him being injured. Recruit a guy that is dedicated to football. Josh Dobbs faced the same decision. Turned out to be the right one.

He's making a huge finacial mistake not focusing on baseball only. He is raw athlete that if he could polish his skills he easily could get 7 figures for his signature 3 years from now.

He isn't anywhere close to that in football and besides there is much much money in professional baseball than football anyway.

No not at all. Just glad you know exactly what this kid is going to turn into. Why don't you just watch the film on the kid, look at his numbers against 7A Alabama football teams, and say there is a chance this kid could be a very good steal late in the recruiting cycle.

Team is in 7A state championship game
69% completion percentage
37 TD's/5 INT's
3,000 yds
500 rush yds
8 rush TD's

You look at this kids film, and look at those stats and tell me he doesn't have a chance and I'll call you crazy. Playing some of the best competition in high school football, and putting up numbers like that is nothing to sneeze at. Sorry I said what I did, but I hate it when people just throw out these predictions good or bad. Let the kid show what he can do before you just say he's a waste of scholarship. Kid is super talented and can be a great QB.

In a normal year I agree, but what other '17 QBs are realistic at this point? I think he's a clear upgrade over Lewis, and I think you have to take a QB in this class just to guard against any possible transfers. Maybe Ulrich if we could get him to flip from SC would be a better get, but other than him I can't think of anyone else that shows anything close to his talent

Randy Wallace was pretty good at QB during a period in the mid-70's when the game was more oriented to running the ball. 51% completions, 2536 yards passing and 572 yards rushing over 3 seasons. He did get drafted high in baseball. IIRC he did not go on with it. But again, that was 40 years ago during the veer days.

Cockrell was thought to have a great baseball future and is probably the best of the examples so far. But it didn't work out either after 9 seasons in the minors. He's had a pretty good baseball coaching career. But again, that was 35 years ago when he played at UT.

He is going to be a high draft this year because he has raw tools but supposedly doesn't perform as a hitter and needs hundreds/thousands of at bats to become a legit 7 figure draft by the MLB. He won't get those without playing baseball in the fall and summer. Actually being a pitcher would be easier than being a raw hitter needed ABs to develop
