Gruden won the Super Bowl his first year with Tony Dungy's players and was eventually fired by the Bucs after 7 seasons.

Winning with another coach's players isn't really a thing in the NFL, or in pro sports in general.

I understand where the sentiment comes from, but feel it is incorrect.

Amen.....

"Butch says that when he talks to people about what this program has done in last 4 years feels like the success they've had gets minimized."

Butch: I don't why the success this program has had the past four years is minimized. I don't get it.

Butch: We’ve won 14 of our past 17 games. I don’t understand why people are minimizing that. We’ve come a long, long way.

Butch: Coaches across the country visit us all the time, asking us how we’ve turned this thing around. I don’t get people minimizing it.

I love Peyton, love the guy. But having connections and experience in the media here in Indy, I've had the chance to discuss this on several occasions. The consensus from folks that have been in these discussions is to the contrary. He over prepares and can't leave the player aspect behind. Meaning, he'd come off a little too ridged and uncomfortable, and maybe too X's and O's to the ears and eyes of the common viewers.

Personally, I think his best bet is to take a coach position with a team - once the endorsement contracts are up - and start a new career working up the ladder that way. If he wants to lead a team again. With his business sense, like you point out, he'd be a great GM or President of Operations.

You mean like Saban and Harbaugh?

And he beat the team he had just left in the Super Bowl....

Also, little different than CFB when it comes to winning with other coaches players.

Cutcliffe is a perfect fit at Duke.

He would be an excellent fit almost anywhere. His coaching pedigree would be very attractive for other coaches to come and learn from. He does more with less at Duke and has a history of top tier performance with talent at Tennessee. Fulmer never performed without him. If Cutcliffe had UT resources and good recruiters on staff, we would be very good.

Wes Rucker is being ridiculous with the "champions of life" thing on twitter.

None of the other beat writers I follow are joining him. But he just keeps on going.

Many posters on here would be shocked how many ADs, at big programs, have a completely different view of CBJ than the teenage girl drama queens on this messageboard. They view his accomplishments at UT with some perspective. Without emotions involved. They are impressed with where the program is at compared to where it was at when he took over. Infallible like the demigod Saban, no? But impressive. He would get a very good offer if he was actually looking to move to another school, which he is most likely not looking to do. Info being put out for a raise/extension.

The comments after one of the reporters post a quote of something Butch says on Twitter are a disgrace.

I don't understand why so many dislike Butch.

Boring the Vol family with his platitudes is part of the problem. Drop the coachspeak and talk like a human being. That, and losing to South Carolina. I like the guy, but since you don't understand.

Rucker has never been a champion of life. He gets the intel they want to give him. That's about it.

PFort actually tries to.rationally discuss it (see below) while Rucker just keeps taking digs and making jokes. It is quite annoying

PFort:.

I think the timing of the CoL comments were off. I get what he was saying. Some young guys have done great things here.
Today is a great day to talk about being CoL after the incredible gesture of going down to Chattanooga.
But, it's just off-base when the question is about missing the SEC Championship Game. I think that's why fans were frustrated.

So, for the 90% of you who have clogged this thread with absolute garbage for the past 3-4 days, are you all planning on logging on tomorrow to b!tch that your turkey is too hot, your sweet potato casserole is too sweet, the pumpkin pie is too rich, etc.? Or will you just gripe about it with your family/loved ones in private? Just curious.

It was funny for a few memes but he takes it on and on and on. Annoying.

I didn't hear it, but he seems really upset.

Excellent coach. In a hypothetical coaching search though, I wouldn't be disappointed if we started elsewhere.

Definitely would have been on board with him to replace Kiffin, but when he was looking to bring Roper and...Luke?... those don't fit the excellent recruiter profiles you mentioned.

I will log on and absolutely ROAST the turkey we serve.

Butch is showing some self confidence issues. He shouldn't be even addressing it. I've not seen one media source downplay what he's done the last four years. I've personally thought he's either exceeded or at least met expectations every year except this year.

Why don't you just login and read tomorrow what is posted instead of boosting you post count by also clogging this thread.

I will never understand why people continue to follow him.

He serves no purpose. Not one. Absolutely useless as a, ahem, "sports writer".
