Like I said earlier today, that is a load of crap. If you are going to completely destroy the coach...you want him fired. Just own it and quit beating around the bush.

While you continue to bring it in a strong way, I agree with you. You can't have it both ways. You can't say I don't want him fired on one hand and just lay it on him on another.

Honest question that I don't know the answer to: besides USCe in 2013, what games has Butch won that we weren't supposed to?

UGA last year is the only one I can think of but I think we were favored.

What games, besides USCe in 2016, have we suffered an upset loss In?

Isn't SC bowl eligible now?

We are definitely a better team, by far. And should won. But still.

Also as Kristy pointed out earlier, Michigan, Ohio state, and Clemson were all bigger favorites in the games they lost than we were over SC.

I'm not denying that. I've said it a million times, Butch has done a good job rebuilding the roster & I like that he's shown improvement but I think it's painfully obvious that he isn't the guy to bring championships to Knoxville.

I do wish his recruiting would pick back up though..nobody can say with a straight face that it isn't at least concerning.

QB recruitment is extremely concerning. Like RB, should take at least one every year. With all due respect to the Lewis guy I had this opinion before he decommitted

I honestly don't know. I don't follow the spreads much. UF in 14 & 15? Arkansas in 15? OU in 15? Those should have all been wins granted we may not have been favored in them.

You can't just use Vegas lines to determine that. They are set for betting purposes.

That said, not sure if we were favored at USC in 2014.

I don't understand how it's so obvious, though, when we've been playing with one hand tied behind our backs all year long with the injuries.

If we hadn't been hit so apocalyptically bad with injuries this year, and still had similar results , then maybe. But I don't see how a judgment can be passed with the crazy season it's been

Fair enough.

Just his in game coaching decisions last year against UF & OU. Then us coming out & looking flat in literally every game we have played so far this year minus a few..plus losing against a brutally bad USCe team. Plus his recruiting falling waaayyy off. That's what I'm basing my opinion on.

Why can't I? He has not been an elite in game coach.who on earth could even argue that? Clock management, mis use of personnel , game plan, please is thisnup for debate?

And from the way we have come out flat almost every game out the gate, one could argue he hasn't been great in preparation.

Has he been all bad, nope. And that's where I am. He isn't a bum of a coach. He isn't Dooley but he has a long way to go to beat the best coaches/programs
And Hiring Yes man Cronies has not helped his cause

Overall, He has done a pretty good job.
If he chooses to leaves, he's no different than our transfers. Thanks for the work but hit the pavement

We probably have been favored with a small edge in some of our losses, but is that really a true upset?

I agree we should have won against Florida and Oklahoma last year, but I don't think it's an actual upset loss.

The only one I know of is SCe this year.

It's easier to argue against people when you invent things that they never said.

I enjoy your posts. But it's also easy to say one thing and do another.

As I said earlier today, saying that you don't want him fired is just semantics when the words "joker," "done," and "hate" are thrown around.

He's definitely not a perfect coach, and definitely makes some frustrating, head-scratcing decisions.

Phil Fulmer..who was praised as a great recruiter for a long time, was notorious for bringing in good to great classes every other year. We have not recruited great classes year in and year out in the 48 years I've been on Earth...EVER. It is kind of stupid to expect it now.

Oh wow... ok I had always remembered ap being official poll during BCS years. Oops I'm wrong. I don't mind admitting it when I am. Sorry all

I'd take Gruden over Butch at this point.

Gruden knows his X and Os. He would basically bring the best game plan and scheme week by week. I'd be confident that we would bring our best A game on a weekly basis.

He would maximize and play his best players NOT based on seniority. (See Kamara and Kelly)

He would surround himself with quality assistant coaches who know how to develop and recruit the style of players to fit his scheme.

CBJ is not able to do that. To get to the next level and win games based on equal talent, that is the difference.

This is the kind of Head coach we need at Tennessee and we need to be willing to pay the big bucks.

Tennessee is in a much better place and position to attract a high level coach thanks to CBJ. Based on his body of work at Tenneseee, don't see him getting better than 9-3/8-4 seasons and that is when the SEC East has been down for the past few years. He was exactly the HC we needed and one of the only ones willing to come and work his ass off to get out of the Dooley years.

I think next year will be his last at UT.

Only major hang up at this point is the AD situation and CBJs contract.

Not to be a dick, but how do you know any of these things that Gruden would do? We can imagine a girlfriend for Catbone and all the awesome changes it would make in his life, but we just don't have any information to back up our claims.

1. He has never been a head coach at the college level.

2. He hasn't coached anything this decade

3. Unless you are intimately familiar with the man and his family, I highly doubt you know enough about his disposition to know how he would handle situations.

We all think Gruden would have been cool, but you can't just say things would be a certain way when you have no idea.

Only thing that I could think of is he wants to get back in coaching and hates Saban, so he wants to come to Tennessee and put Saban in retirement as well as win more national championships than him.

Good point. I just suspect that Gruden realizes that the expectations for him would probably be much higher than for the majority of other coaches. If he wasn't able to quickly deliver Saban or Meyer-like results, the national/local media and fanbase would be relentless.

Sometimes, it is just better to sit back and enjoy the speculation of what could be vs. having to live up to the hype.

That's fair. However there's nothing inconsistent about doubting Butch's ability to win championships and not saying that you want him first immediately.

You're constantly griping that the man sucks at his job, but you don't want him gone...yeah I buy that. :) wink wink.
