I think they were 11th in one poll when we beat them, but they went on a little tear after we beat them, and finished 4th just a few games later. That is why I get pissed at Cat for keeping on posting that stupid stat.

Before the college football playoffs, AP poll was the actual ranking system, not the coaches poll. That's all I'm saying.

Does DiPitreo have no say in this hire? He didn't want to keep Hart- why would he want Hart's minion then? Makes no sense- what did Gilbert do to win all these people over?

Exactly. Why trade a fairly stress-free existence where you're paid $6.5 million per year to comment on the decisions/performance of others in exchange for a extremely demanding role where your every move/statement is scrutinized by the masses and your future is dependent on the actions of 18-22 year olds and a handful of wealthy patrons of the university?

A&M is just as talented as us. Their front 7 on defense has almost, if not all, four and five stars. Their OL has several four stars, and everyone knows about their skilled players.

I never looked at LSU's roster, but I bet they are just as talented as well. We were more talented this year than we have been in a while, but those schools are just as talented.

Should Butch be fired as of today, probably not.
If he doesn't make any changes to his staff I will have many worries about next season. MANY!

If he decides to take a lateral move and leave, I wouldn't be writhing around in pain. We'll be fine. We have resources and a lot in the pantry and cupboard to move forward.

I am very concerned that he doesn't know how to handle a team and especially a team with expectations.
It's a lot easier to win 7 games when you're coming off the Dooley years.

It's almost criminal how little Alvin Kamara was used before Hurd went out. Going back to last year, you could see he absolutely changes the game.

Just ask yourself how many great coaches (harbaugh, Shaw, Meyer, Satan , Jimbo, et al...) would have had a talent like that and not maximized their potential . All of those guys would have had Kamara with around 20 plus touches, lining up all over, taking advantage of match ups

Our league is a Line of scrimmage and a match up game, how many times can you say we out matched our opposing coach with situational football (especially on offense)

When the talent is about even, when and where do we create wins for our special players?

Freakin hilarious how you emphasize CONTEXT...and then just ABSOLUTELY ignore it...whatever fits the Butch is a pathetic coach narrative amirite? We WERE more talented till we lost half the damn team to injury, but that CONTEXT doesn't fit your agenda does it? I agree we shouldn't have lost to SC, but every dang one of the coaches you guys slurp on has lost crappy games this year...every dang one. In CONTEXT a beat up, and demoralized team lost a close game because their freakin senior QB had a complete stinkbomb of a game, and handed it to SC.

ESPN sponsored the coaches poll some years back, and that's what they used. Also, both were used in the BCS formula. But, whatever.

He literally said in the post you quoted that Butch probably shouldn't be fired..so what agenda is he pushing?

And we had two weeks to prepare for that game..I don't think people understand how terrible that South Carolina team is. Inexcusable in every sense of the word especially in year 4 with so much riding on the line. This fan base was ready to explode & this program finally on the verge of national prominence again..but we lay an egg.

LWS says that Blackburn has more backing in Knoxville than those opposed and they have to conduct a search, so hopefully people come to their senses and Anderson is told to back off from his wishes. He shouldn't hire our next AD.

Only thing that I could think of is he wants to get back in coaching and hates Saban, so he wants to come to Tennessee and put Saban in retirement as well as win more national championships than him.

Only coach I see that's worth that kind of money is Chip Kelly, and that's debatable even. Gruden might ask for that kind of price tag but, he hasn't coached in this decade.

Gruden knows his X and Os. He would basically bring the best game plan and scheme week by week. I'd be confident that we would bring our best A game on a weekly basis.

He would maximize and play his best players NOT based on seniority. (See Kamara and Kelly)

He would surround himself with quality assistant coaches who know how to develop and recruit the style of players to fit his scheme.

This is the kind of Head coach we need at Tennessee and we need to be willing to pay.

Only major hang up at this point is the AD situation and CBJs contract.

Not mentioned is free will...Gruden's in particular. He doesn't want to leave his situation to coach...much less this toxic backbiting ungrateful soap opera.

Like I said earlier today, that is a load of crap. If you are going to completely destroy the coach...you want him fired. Just own it and quit beating around the bush.

Honest question that I don't know the answer to: besides USCe in 2013, what games has Butch won that we weren't supposed to?

UGA last year is the only one I can think of but I think we were favored.

Isn't SC bowl eligible now?

We are definitely a better team, by far. And should've won. But still.

Also as Kristy pointed out earlier, Michigan, Ohio state, and Clemson were all bigger favorites in the games they lost than we were over SC.
