I thought Charlie walked into a horrible fit. I've watched his teams close out teams. He outcoached ranked teams for huge wins too.

He has 3 wins vs ranked teams at Texas.

OU in 2015 (good win)
Baylor in 2015 (all of their QBs were injured and they were playing a WR at QB)
ND this year (f***ing LOL)

His record without Teddy Bridgewater is garbage. Mark Helfrich looked great with an NFL QB too. Doesn't make either of them good coaches. Just means they piggybacked a talented QB.

It's disappointing to read thru some of this and see people pointing to 9-3 and asking would we take that. Record WITHOUT context

Texas A&M and South Carolina shouldnot have been losses

Period.

Alabama is the only "Loss" that is some what acceptable even tho you still can't convince me they are THAT much better than us even down the personnel we were down.

9-3 with losses to teams who out manned us , I can deal with

There is not a team on our schedule other than Bama with equal talent

That's the reality.
There's something missing with our teams, if it's not talent, then what?

Should Butch be fired as of today, probably not.
If he doesn't make any changes to his staff I will have many worries about next season. MANY!

If he decides to take a lateral move and leave, I wouldn't be writhing around in pain. We'll be fine. We have resources and a lot in the pantry and cupboard to move forward.

I am very concerned that he doesn't know how to handle a team and especially a team with expectations.
It's a lot easier to win 7 games when you're coming off the Dooley years.

It's almost criminal how little Alvin Kamara was used before Hurd went out. Going back to last year, you could see he absolutely changes the game.

Just ask yourself how many great coaches (harbaugh, Shaw, Meyer, Satan , Jimbo, et al...) would have had a talent like that and not maximized their potential . All of those guys would have had Kamara with around 20 plus touches, lining up all over, taking advantage of match ups

Our league is a Line of scrimmage and a match up game, how many times can you say we out matched our opposing coach with situational football (especially on offense)

When the talent is about even, when and where do we create wins for our special players?

I totally rambled on and typed way too much. :hi:

Jay, per usual, bringing that truth.

Let's just say that the West is the Best narrative is bought by everyone and a 8-4 West team is better than a 9-3 East team... I don't believe it but I know people outside of Tennessee does

I believe a 9-3 Tennessee will be ranked higher than an 8-4 Auburn.

I don't think that is a controversial opinion?

I find nothing in this post of which to disagree. Add in the many players that have been asked to play other positions than the one that naturally fits their talents. That is self defeating and usually is an exercise in futility for all.

Last two years Butch should have 3 losses. Alabama twice and Arkansas last year. The other losses I place all blame on him (A&M, Oklahoma, Florida, SCAR). 😎😎😎😎😎

I really think if it wasn't for the back to back heartbreakers with OU & UF, we handle Arky

The guys on "The Drive" sports talk show in Knoxville today were talking about a Doomsday Scenario where Vandy wins, we lose to a middle of the road bowl opponent in a mid-tier bowl and we can't really fire CBJ. The offseason would be brutal with apathy setting in.

Other than that... the show was pretty good lol.

I don't understand discussing that until it actually happens.

college football 101, guess what it means if your team is playing for a berth in a new years 6 bowl? it means you had a pretty damn good year. class dismissed.

7 turnovers isn't the coaches fault. IMO

Normally I would agree with that. However, valuing the football and enforcing the valuation is a coaching requirement with most programs. They do drills in practice all the time. Most top coaches are of the belief that if they don't execute correctly - go sit. Next up. If the TO is due to a great D play, no problem. Go gettum next time. There is no telling how much better Dobbs would have been had he sat out a series instead of staying in the same funk for a half or a game as he has done on occasion over 4 seasons. Same with the receivers on drops as well as TO's. Josh Smith has gone from glue fingers in HS to stone hands in college. He needs to sit and let somebody else play. The glue fingers may return if that happened. He's not the only one.

Best scenario for our program is we win out and sit 10-3. Butch can continue to show upward direction to recruits. Make a few staff changes and get ready for 2017. At 10-3 he does become more attractive to other programs simply because of resurrecting a dead program and doing it no less in the SEC.

The only thing that worries me is that Josh Dobbs could be our Dak Prescott

If by some chance Dobbs starts picking up major NFL interest after the senior bowl, combine and individual workouts, and he gets drafted...it's really, really bad news for UT football IMO

You see where I am going with this?

It would mean Butch Jones is a terrible coach. And I've been saying that all year.

You must be a miserable person to be around. Butch deserves respect at this point. Fantastic coach? No, still work in progress. Terrible coach? That's simply the ramblings of an overly negative poster.
