For the avoidance of doubt:

Getting to the Sugar Bowl is a HUGE deal for this program. Any mistaken belief to the contrary is ridiculous.

It would make a difference in a number of areas:

1. We are the #2 contender to Bama in the league
2. Huge for recruiting
3. National perception increases
4. Money difference
5. We haven't made a NY6/BCS game since 2000.

This part concerns me. Tuttle and KMac should be solid, if they are healthy, but we have no evidence on Johnson and precious little on Kongbo.

Here's the thing. We have evidence of player improvement especially this year in the down field passing game with Malone stepping up and JJ showing out. I think that pic six will do JK a world of good. The college game is what it is. It's great watching players come into their own. I will be watching those two.

Don't forget the improved OL play.

But none of that matters to the legion of miserables!! Four years ago we were coming off our 3rd consecutive 5-7 year if y'all don't remember just how bad things were not so long ago!

If someone had told me after Dooley lost at Vandy in 2012 that we'd make it to the Sugar Bowl in four seasons I'd have punched them for being so stupid.

Now we are a win away (@Vandy of course) from likely doing just that.

All our focus should be on the Dores. I can't wait to blow their doors off this week.

That was NOT his point. He said we had no business losing to SC. Had nothing to do with anything else about our season. I pointed out that good teams have bad games.

And for those saying our loss is worse,

Clemson was a 20.5 point favorite over Pitt.
Michigan was a 21 point favorite over Iowa.
Ohio State was an 18 point favorite over Penn State.
We were a 15 point favorite.

How again is our loss much worse? I'm not saying we shouldn't have won the game. I'm saying that teams don't always play to their potential - good teams. And sometimes bad teams exceed their potential.

I did not say it was.

Chad Morris will be Baylor's next coach. Probably will be made official
First week of December. Jmo.

I'm a fan of Morris, but man would I be nervous about hiring him after just two years as a head coach.

I'd want to see him get SMU to a bowl (still possible this year) and then have at least one 8-10 win season before he gets a big job.

That's BS. Last year, we got ahead early and didn't hold on. This year we get behind early and make a comeback.

If you don't like Butch, just say so. Don't make up things that just aren't true.

I like Butch and I think his work is still incomplete. He has shown that he makes changes to make the team better. Too many on here I guess think that this was a 3 year turn around job and are tired of it.

And I'm getting tired of them.

So in big games why do we wait until we are down to start making aggressive playcalls? Why do we not blow small teams out instead of letting them stay in the game to potentially upset us?

I want Butch to win. And own the mistakes and failures. Stop with the BS that no one believes.

This. I'd rather him take the Bill Belichick route than saying shat that NO ONE believes, like "champions of life."

I get fan's reactions at that, it reeked of excuses making and b.s.

In fairness, I never thought playcalling was an issue against Florida, Georgia, and A&M even when we got down early. I thought Debord was calling a good game in each case, but we were letting ourselves down with drops and turnovers - execution errors. We got back in the games when we played better... there was no great shift in tactics or aggression.

Not going to defend some of the other games, though. Bama, SCar, App State, even VT to an extent. We absolutely came out tentative in those games.

He was talking about the seniors and tried to give a 'feel good' quote about being proud of them. It only reeked of excuse making if you are the type that falls for click bait headlines daily.

That said, it was a corny statement and Butch says lots of corny things he'd be better off skipping.

Strong at Louisville kinda beats whatever Butch has done. Texas was garbage when he took over.

He lost against Kansas in year 3. That's a Dooley-versus-Kentucky type loss. Arguably even worse. Texas shouldn't even need a coach to beat that team.

For the record, I don't think Strong is a horrible coach. Put him at a 'decent' football school and I think he does a very good job. But if I'm a top program, I don't even glance at him as a HC.

And, they're still garbage, three years later. Tennessee was garbage when Butch took over. Are we still garbage? I say that we are not garbage at all. We are relevant again and that is refreshing.

That's the problem that some of us are having right now. Yes the playoff is the goal but if we don't get there that doesn't mean the season is a complete failure.

Yep in reality sugar bowl was probably this teams realistic ceiling anyway. Just may take an odd way of getting there. When you consider this teams injuries sugar bowl is a big deal. They could have mailed it in. That is the issue with setting an expectation before season based on one set of information then not being willing to tweak it a bit based on how season plays out. Before season i said 10-2 if healthy. I would have said 11-1 but I knew Butch would blow a game somewhere. So going 9-3 with all the injuries while not what we wanted is still good based on how season played out losing so many star players and leaders

Now if we don't make it there that will suck.
