Didn't you post in the game thread the other day that he should be fired? I'm pretty sure you did.

I don't think I've said those words this year (maybe last year in a fit of rage). Even with USC, I think the worst I said is this guy probably won't get it done here. I've been forcing myself not to post in the game threads much this year, especially about long term coaching opinions.

That said, whether I or anyone else said it, taking people seriously in their most heated moments (game thread posts in a horrific loss) isn't a good way to go through life.

Those are about the only scenarios I can see happening.

And I'm still not sure any of the programs in that position will drop the money to pay Butch how he's being paid here.

Justin Fuente makes $3.2 million

Fedora is underpaid at $2 million

There's plenty of scenarios like this that could happen. It doesn't mean it's likely but it's possible.

If he wants out which going to a school like those would mean the $ won't matter.

In theory yeah, but it's pretty rare to see a coach make a lateral move for LESS money (especially if it's substantial).

I just honestly don't see Butch's name coming up for as many schools as many around here think this season.

You just don't see many moves like that happen unless the school isn't providing a coach with the resources they feel like they need to be successful (a la Wisconsin and their last few years of quick coaching turnover). That's not the case here. The case here would just be Butch being thin skinned and feeling like the fan base isn't giving him a fair shake.

To those who are making that out to be a big enough deal for him to bolt to a school like UNC for less money, I'll refer you all to the TTU game to see how much Butch cares about fans having their parties in a wad.

Part of the problem is our local media volquest and 247 Sports Towing this s*** out there and our fan base is freaking ridiculously crazy and believes everything those *******s say

Off this butch discussion train wreck. What is Vandys injury situation? Think our offense keeps clicking?

1. Fuente is a perfect fit at VT and isn't going anywhere.

2. Butch would be taking a $900,000 pay cut if he went to VT and matched that salary.

3. The fact that UNC hasn't given Fedora a better contract yet shows exactly how committed they are to spending the money necessary to make a lateral hire instead of searching in the lower ranks for a new coach.

UNC seems way less likely. I didn't realize how little they were paying Fedora. Someone needs to scoop him up. He would be my first call if Butch were to leave.

If he goes 10-3 and wins the Sugar Bowl he is going to be a hot name for fanbases searching for a coach. People live in the "now" and he would be red hot coming off a victory in the Sugar, probably finishing with a top ten ranking at 10-3 while playing in the SEC with a ton of injuries and did it after building the program from scratch.

If memory serves, that year was a lot like this one. Lost 2 games to a very good Auburn team and got beat at home by a pretty crappy Notre Dame.

Yeah we went 7-1 in sec play. That could have been a very good year but I think they lost focus and forgot what they were playing for.

These are just 2 scenarios I dreamed up when it was suggested that lateral moves wouldn't have the money because they were paying to fire their coach and have to buy out ours.

I agree UNC isn't a threat. Va Tech would be if Fuente left. They could afford the buyout and they could meet CBJ in the middle on the salary.

If he wants to make a lateral move he can find one as long as he keeps winning. If he loses one of his next two games then the odds of that happening go way down this cycle.

One thing that worries me is that they will take away Dobbs.

We look like poo on offense when that happens. (sometimes our own coaches make this happen and other times it is the opposing DC)

Rebuilding a broken program and taking a program all the way are two different skill sets. Butch is clearly, 100% proven he can take a program out of the dumps and make it respectable. I think the evidence so far has shown he may lack what it takes to go all the way to a championship. Squandering 4 (I think?) double digit leads in one year and having your team come out flat 11 out of 11 games the next year (arguably) aren't traits of a coach who can win it all. Maybe he'll improve, maybe he'll learn and get it done, but the evidence so far points to an elite rebuilder but not an elite "advancer" for lack of a better word.
