Butch did say he wanted to continue coaching with #Vols OC Mike DeBord as long as he can.

If I can explain it like I'm talking to a 6 year old maybe it will help.

It's not 1999 and TN has more cash to spend than the rest of the NCAA.

Therefore, when you go looking for a coach, your competition has money (not just the elite programs) and many times can offer a better overall job. Therefore, if you try to outspend them to make up for your job not being as good, you can't do it because they have money too and are just as willing to spend it.

To add to that, coaching moves are made so quickly that even the better programs who have great situations and money to spend end up taking a risk by hiring someone without a lot of proven success as a head coach. And they overpay to do so because that's what the market dictates. Tennessee isn't going to lure away an elite coach simply by flashing the money.

It's not just a matter of Tennessee being willing to spend the money to get a coach.

Money isn't the factor you think that it is for all of the reasons I listed above.

I'm not calling for him to be fired, but I absolutely do not think he is going to get it done here. The last two years have proven that to me time and time again. It's only a matter of time. Throw in all the ridiculous, insulting press conference nonsense this guy throws at this fanbase and it only pours salt in the wound.

My only hope is that he somehow continues to recruit well before the inevitable happens.

I also am not counting this weekend's game as a W. I think there's a very good chance this team finishes with the same record as last year's team.

Maybe not in specific words. But Looking at their words and context it sure seems like it


If I was out here running down my wife and criticizing her every mistake and flaw, that sure sends a different message than saying all that and then simply saying "oh but I don't want her to leave. I fully support and stand by my wife!"

I was gonna say this. So thank you.

The only really bad loss he's had in his 4 years here where we were expected to win easily was this year's SC game.

Has he lost some that we should have won after getting big leads? Sure. But only one bad loss in 4 years isn't bad.

I'm at least at an eight year old level, thanks, but if anyone on this forum holds on to their opinions to get the last word in like a 6 year old, it's you my friend. Which I am allowing you to do. Agree to disagree, like WriterVol said. Money talks. If the money isn't right, nothing else will be.

Same thing with Urbs against Penn State and with Petersen at Washington. Those losses COULD possibly cost them the playoffs. Remains to be seen. But Washington came out, didn't play well, and got beat at home.

I think it's ok to differentiate your wife and the football coach of your team.

Contradictory.

Add "in your opinion" and the post is fine. It may not be at all accurate to many people that know the game well including CFB analysts from the media that offer a different perspective of his cumulative bad losses. Some might say to agree with your position is to have selective amnesia.

I'm a little worried TBA is going to use that as bulletin board material. Sure, we should be the favored CofL, but nothing is decided yet.

Not contradictory. At least "in my opinion" 😉

The ones in the list above I made were games that the one team was a big favorite and should have won easily coming into the game. But ended up losing. Butch only has one of those in 4 years here.
