Including Florida's before injury. Did well against Georgia but stupid plays put us in bad positions. Even last night, Josh Smith drops a first down. Not saying he is perfect but in a complete season you will have some issues. But, we should've only lost to Bama regardless of the play calling on O and the D has done enough to win every game except Bama as well. Big thing the last couple of games has been protecting the ball. See what happens with LSU and Florida when you don't. It evens the playing field regardless of how much better a team is. Protect the ball when you play Bama and if they turn it over minus 4, that is when they have lost and they are above everyone right now. If we protect the football, Ohio and AS are not even close as well even with the bad play calling. It is what it is but it is what I think right now. If QD or JG are the real deal, we will have some fun the next few years if BS can get the D going like in year two, he hopefully should be able to do.

The cliches were bad enough, but CBJ has created an adversarial relationship with the media. That whole back pocket list thing... "let me educate you"... the way he handled Hurd leaving in the presser... Cleatgate... and now saying he never talked about winning the East-- he just keeps making them dislike him. So they make him look bad whenever they can-- and unfortunately it reflects badly on UT.

Yep. The only thing that Butch has said all year to the press that makes sense is we don't look at the stats anymore. May not be pretty but only stat that matters is W/L.

Head coach has conceded the defense is very suspect due to the personnel. Just win by out scoring the other team. Big12 style. Fk it

Great, now we have posters that are happy with the offense because they scored a lot of points against the #82 and #116 rated defenses as well as against a 5 win FCS team. Glad it is happening, but in no way does that compensate for 8 first halves in a row of an offensive, dumbly called offense similar to the one that got Fulmer fired that eventually cost this team a shot at the SECCG.

Some on here are missing the main point about Hurd. The Butch/Debored decision to start him and play call for him, yet not scheme for him, should tell you something valuable. Either, they found it more important to showcase him in a bad fitting offense for whatever reasons regardless of the results, or, they didn't know any better and felt he was their best option. It was a boneheaded move.

For this program to achieve an elite level, the Butch and buddy coach thing needs to be broken up. Hire the best coaches available and hold them accountable for the results.

OTOH, Dooley was pretty funny, but he was an ass behind the scenes and a horrible coach. I honestly think the fan base hung onto Dooley a year too long because he was fun, and would get rid of Butch too early because he is a robot.

They hung on because he was our coach. Coach can't do wrong for many.

If you're going to judge the head coach or the coordinators then you need to focus on certain games.

Here's the games that matter....

Virginia Tech
Florida
Georgia
Texas AM
Bama

Any game outside of that only matters if you lose it. So add South Carolina to that list.

Take those 6 games and that's where you look. It doesn't matter if you struggle vs app any more or less than it does if you blow out tenn tech.

I cannot stand coming in here anymore. If you idiots cannot realize that we are in a much better position than the past decade, there is no help for you. Fact of the matter is if Florida had to play the same schedule as us we would be SECE champs. The only issue I have with Butch is not telling JH to stay in Knoxville when we played Usce like A&m.

VT- 45
UF- 38 (went for it at the 1 and got stopped)
UGA- 35 (Defensive TD, Hail Mary, Hurd fumble at goal line)
A&M- 38 (7 TO)
Bama- 10 (oof)
USCe- 21 (Berry return TD)

I'm not arguing for or against Debord just putting the numbers and what I remember from the games with your post.

I agree with you. Our fans are insufferable. You'd think we just lost to Kansas for the first time since 1938. Instead we are 8-3 for the first time since 2007, scored the most points in a three game stretch since the 1930s and are getting to enjoy watching some of the best players in program history (Barnett, Dobbs). Our fanbase learned nothing from the misery of the last ten years except how to find the miserable and negative angles on everything.

The most laughable thing I've seen on here in the past few weeks is that the same negative posters that were wringing their hands about our DT depth in the fall and the effect that would have on our defense are now saying all the injuries to our DTs is not a valid excuse for how horrid our defense is.

People are crazy.
