I feel like I'm getting water deboarded listening to you guys complain about 600 yard performances.

Outside South Carolina, the offense has been acceptable imo. I'm curious to see Kelly vs good a defense next week because he hasn't played vs a good one yet. Hurd did and got exposed.

Debord isn't going anywhere.

Agreed. I think Mahoney won't be extended and Z will either leave for an OC position or we'll promote him to keep him. Hopefully, CBJ will hire a new S&C coach and a few others may choose to leave, but IDT CBJ intends to make many changes. Until the new AD is on board, he basically can do whatever he wants.

Nobody who is a tennessee fan should want to play Louisville in a bowl game.

At this point, we don't need to play anyone who has a strong run game. Anyone who has a balanced attack would be tough to beat. I just hope we get a bowl game around New Years day so we can get some guys rested.

I think, well, we know that Mahoney's contract ends in February. It's been flatly stated to me that there will be a mutual parting of ways there. I think a couple other Vols' coaches are deciding how much longer they want to coach, Nick Sheridan will get another full-time job in college football, several GA/quality control guys will as well, and I think Shoop will have options and if he returns, I'd expect him to place at least "one of his guys" on staff. Even Dave Clawson was allowed to bring an assistant. Shoop just helped with a couple GAs. That's rare, especially for someone of his ilk.
Blackburn helps bc Blackburn knows the SEC, knows the landscape, culture, knows lots of coaches, has developed a bond with a number of ADs through the years, including Jeremy Foley, who can help with identifying upcoming coaching talent and connections. It's all still networking and trust to a large extent, and people trust DB to tell coaches to go with for/with him. Doesn't hurt that DB has known Jimmy Sexton for 30 years, either.
DB can make Butch better bc of all those factors and more. DB's got that Doug Dickey in him, in that he isn't afraid to get out front of bad things and lead. Hart wasn't either, but Hart always had a segment of the base that viewed him skeptically no matter what.

I think there is large Segment of our fanbase that views every coach we have skeptically all the time no matter what. I'm not sure that segment has enjoyed any season in the last 50 years besides maybe the 1998 season. And I'm sure they're skeptical of that one because of the stoerner fumble and fsu playing its third string qb. I wouldn't base my decisions on that part of the fanbase (or media).

LBs have a lot of older guys. Juniors that aren't even serviceable starters.

Bynum - yes. McDowell and Berry are serviceable, though better suited to be backups. McDowell has good flashes actually. Those are the only upper classmen I think.

DBs have Foreman, Moseley, and Martin who have under-performed. Berry never looked great. TKJr seemed to regress as a starter. And Sutton started his freshmen year as a play-maker, so I don't think Martinez can get any credit for developing him.

I think people will look at who we return. We will return 17 out 22 starters. Florida will return maybe 10-12 starters and their qb is garbage.

But our QB is an unknown and Dobbs and Kamara (and Hurd) were most of our offense and they'll all be gone. Malone could leave early, too. JKelly, Byrd and others will fill the gaps, but IDT the preseason polls will reflect this. I think the love will be showered on UF and UGA... which means we'll be in prime position to win the East since preseason polls are usually wrong.

In other words, don't let the door hit you on the way out, Mahoney. Fair or unfair, I think his units have be the most scrutinized since he arrived. Time for some new blood.

I still have confidence that Shoop will do well here but this year was definitely disappointing, to say the least. Allow him to bring his guys in, mold the defense how he wants it, and significant improvement should come. And, if it doesn't, it may not be just him that suffers the consequences.

Foreman has actually has been better than we give him credit for. Lol

Now LB: Bryant, Bates, McDowell and the others haven't looked good. Kirkland still doesn't meet blockers violently. That was going on week 1 to tell the truth.

I think Martinez, Mahoney and Azzanai leave for sure.

Debord I thought is leaving for sure after this year. Now I'm 50/50. Same with Thig.

Just a random thought. Would not be surprised to see Shy Tuttle leave football. I just think it doesn't make much sense to factor him into next year's defense. I hope I am wrong and maybe he can fully rehabilitate but gosh he has had bad luck. I really appreciate what he has brought.

He's not going to forfeit millions of dollars because of a few injuries.

Aside from Strip and Gillespie I wouldn't lose an ounce of sleep if the rest of them were turned over. Scott is nice to have for recruiting FL but the TEs and special teams have regressed also.

Azzani did something you don't see very often.

He made significant changes and improved

Stopped the ignorant stance and rotation stuff. Finally developed a good WR and has Jennings looking good as well.

Yep. Those two are the only ones we have to keep.

Edit and Shoop. We are 6-5 at best without him.

Bryant and Bates are sophomores though. And I still like Bates and think he could still develop (even more so with a better position coach).

I agree about the meeting blockers violently. The LBs don't play with the pad level they should. When they aren't missing tackles altogether, they are tackling flat footed, getting ran over for extra yards. But the DBs don't look for the ball on pass plays and can't get off blocks. If the other team had a 75 yard TD run, they'd get blocked all the way to the endzone. They also can't tackle.
