We weren't going to the playoffs anyway. So the biggest consequence is that we lost a chance at a bowl like the Sugar or Cotton. Now the Citrus is our ceiling. We are so beat up that I'm not sure we would win vs a Sugar/Cotton Bowl caliber opponent.

With an absolute chance to get into the playoffs. Hard to believe the performance from that game. But, as we've seen today, every team with perhaps the exception of Bama can have a game like that. Michigan today with Iowa, Washington also, Clemson with Pitt, it can happen. But it hurts knowing once again how close we were

It wasn't long ago that "how close we were" referred to almost making a bowl game.

Don't get me wrong, the South Carolina loss was unacceptable. But it happened and there's nothing we can do about it now. There's still football left to be played and Tennessee can still accomplish a lot.

The loss to South Carolina sucked, but let's be honest here, being in the hunt for the playoff would just mean we had a shiny number next to our name. At this point in the season, we don't have the players/depth to compete with the top teams. The season and playoff hopes likely end the same way even if we had beaten the gamecocks, which is a spanking by Bama in Atl. Even with the upsets today, I don't think we should bemoan the South Carolina loss more so than we already have. JMO.
