I guess if you want to follow the 24/7 composite. Several have stated that Tatum and Niehaus are great looking prospects who need time to develop. They are your 3 star prospects who don't help that ranking. Have some dynamic skill players in that class. Light on the defensive line.

I agree. I don't think CBJ has the right staff in place to win successfully in the sec. From the S&C to the QB coaching. Changes need to be made. I can see us going 2-2 rest of the year. Too many injuries and a lot less physical with the exact same players as last year.

For all we know, he could have been a cancer in the locker room. That can affect team chemistry. Kinda like how some posters are a cancer on VN and affect the overall mood of the board.

It was said he wouldn't hire outside his circle of guys and we have Shoop & Scott, so this is an unproven narrative. I think he has an idea of what he wants in an offense and meddles too much. He's capable of changing that and that will determine his future. Jimmy Johnson was another motivator/recruiter with an idea of what he wanted. He bent after Oklahoma State and allowed his Miami coordinators to run their show. Same happened in Dallas. Picked the wrong guy in David Shula and stubbornly stuck with him before finally turning it over to Norv Turner. The drive and ability to pick players that will fit his program are strengths that Jimmy,Bill Parcells and Butch display. The first two allowed better assistants to use their gifts before reaching that ultimate success. Let's hope Butch finds his Norv Turner and Bill Belichick and let's them work.

I just made the mistake of watching some of the replay of the USCe fiasco on the SEC network. The classic mistake we see Dobbs make was that pick at the 3:50 mark or so that had Smith targeted. It is against a deep, soft zone. He throws 5-10 yards short to the inside on a 4 wide streak pattern with minimal pressure. Kelly went into motion and he play actioned to him. Kelly continues out into the flat as the receivers streak deep and Dobbs locks on Smith even though the outside WR on that side is even more open and a safer throw against the sideline.

First off that is not a conservative play call by Debored. However, it is an unusual one. Why go wide open when you have nearly 4 minutes to work the clock and make first downs to at least get in FG position to tie? Why take the chance that Dobbs will do what he has done several times in his career at crunch time?

Let's assume that Dobbs is uncomfortable with this play since he's had the bad day. What do most experienced QBs that are having bad days do when they have no confidence in their throws? Check down. Kelly had continued out into the flat and the nearest defender was about 15 yards away. Had Dobbs just glanced at him once to see since (there was plenty of time), he would have seen an easy throw that would have been a first down and maybe more. Kelly could have made something special happen in the open field as we have seen.

Which is not what we expect of Dobbs or any other QB after 4 seasons and why many of us cannot see why that should continue. Short leash going forward would be wise IMO.

Ok. I can't believe we haven't rehashed this recently.

Does Butch take the biggest Risk/Reward in football history, and have a cup of coffee at Pete's with Peyton, and tell him, "Come home. Run the offense. Coach the QB's, and let's win championships."

I've always found it ludicrous, but when Peyton was on the broadcast earlier this year, he seemed to want to be back in the fray already. Obviously... it's Peyton, but at the same time, he's never been an OC or a coach, so there is huge risk at the same time. Peyton would also likely run a pro-scheme, which is not Butch's cup of tea.

I don't think Butch would ever offer. If PM was a terrible OC, it would cost Butch's job. If he was successful, the fanbase would clamor for PM to be promoted to HC before he went somewhere else. No win for Butch.

Also, let's get some action on this ARK / FL match-up. This is huge, and we could be right back in ATL, if things happen here.

1. Strength of Schedule: ARK has only lost to AL, A&M, and AU. All very good opponents, as we have seen. Auburn was within 6 of beating Clemson, and their only other loss is to A&M.

FL 6-1
ARK 5-3

Flip those schedules, and I think you flip those records. I still think Florida is fool's gold, and their only "quality victory" is KY, or if you choose to somehow think UGA counts. KY has also beaten no one of consequence.


2. Home Sweet Home: The game is in ARK, and I think ARK has a very good chance of stealing a win here. Florida has only played two true road games, @ TN, and squeaking a win out @ Vandy, 13-6.

3. Can Florida Run?: This is probably the key of the game. Auburn ran for over 500 yards... yes... over 500 yards, against Ark. Bama had 264, and A&M had 366... all losses.

Florida is only averaging 170 YPG on the ground. I'm not sure they can put up the numbers needed to get it done. Statistically, you need to run for a ton to beat ARK.

4. Air Florida: Do you think Del Rio is going to beat them through the air? Florida averages 260 YPG passing and Arkansas has allowed exactly the same amount of yards as TN through the air, 206.3 per game.

5. Break the defense: Per, the script. Florida is going to rely on the defense to last long enough for a victory. They do not want this to get into a high scoring affair, and turnovers may very well decide this one.

Austin Allen is expected to play, and has had huge games vs A&M and Bama, the toughest games on their schedule. He will need to bring the firepower to force Florida to try to attempt more on offense.



Bottom Line: I'm calling for the upset. A lot of "homer" in this post, but whatever. Arkansas is better than they appear, and Florida is worse than they appear. Homefield advantage throws the East back into an open contest.

If even half the stuff we've heard about Hurd is true then I don't doubt he was a distraction. But I doubt he's the primary reason for our current situation.

People had Malzahn half buried. Duke Williams problem, Jovon Robinson dismissed, no QB play...

Hmmm... WR drama, RB drama, no QB play... and can still recover and win games. :whistling:

Maybe the mood would be better if we were undefeated. The answer is no s**t. Fact of the matter is we aren't. I am by no means happy with the loss. I have accepted it. I also don't rail on about things I can't change. I accept things for what they are and I charlie mike.

Agreed. Coaching changes need to happen. There is a noticeable difference from before the BYE week to now (in terms of effort). That spark we say in previous games wasn't there. The refusal to lose.

Well we keep insisting on playing Bama every year and the SEC offices keep giving us the ****tiest draws in the conference year after year and a lousy placement of our bye week. Our divisional rivals, OTOH, don't face a near-automatic loss to Bama every year as long as Saban is there and they don't draw the teams in the West we keep getting stuck with.

We've once again managed to face two play-off teams, this time in back to back weeks after being decimated with injuries. We followed it up with locker room drama, an RB who caused drama during the bye week and who refused to play the game when he was needed after an injury to another and who caused very real problems during the game for his team and in doing so helped us lose to a lousy team because we couldn't get our ish together.

The East leader that we beat has faced only one team with a winning a record and lost to that one team. Our goal is to win the East yet the inbalance in scheduling is extreme and they managed to pull off fake emergency bye week to avoid an opponent when they were injured -- would've been nice if we could've done that.

It's been a lousy three weeks but two of those losses were expected. The third was the worst loss we've had under CBJ and the bye week drama had all the makings to contribute to it.

I don't know, from an offense perspective we had the best game we've had in a long time with almost 700 yards. I mean just think if we didn't turn it over 7 times. Makes me wonder if we handle SC easily if Kamara plays with Kelly and Hurd doesn't travel.
