My point was just that he can't transfer in November.

He is going to the draft IMO. I think I've made that pretty clear that is what I believe.

I see. Does dropping out hurt draft chances? Do NFL scouts look down on that?

Just read that JH would have to sit a year to even transfer down to a D2 school and have to use a redshirt not allowing him to play til 2018. What a bone head move!!
No way he doesn't declare for the draft now.

Trying to save face with the narrative out there.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Make it look like he's going to transfer, then the semester ends and oops, turns out he's not going to transfer after all and will immediately enter the draft (which in fact he has been training for since leaving the team--likely at a facility located far away from Knoxville).

Here's a question for the Volnation masses. Assuming Hurd declares for the draft, makes a team that is not your favorite, are you rooting for him? I will probably be indifferent, not rooting for him, but not rooting against him.

I don't know. We will see what he does but my guess is that he finishes the semester then withdraws from UT and doesn't transfer.

Right now, he is carrying on the charade that he just wants to transfer and play tight end at a different school.

It has been 24 hours. Not sure what you are driving at.

Right.

He is transferring. Not dropping out of school.

Edit: He isn't actually gonna go through with the transfer IMO but my point is that even if he was, he wouldn't do it in November. Not logistically possible I wouldn't think. He needs to finish his semester here.

I know that. Just thought it was interesting that the News Sentinel felt the need to text that out.

Maybe he's close to graduating and can transfer as a graduate transfer. That would be the only way he plays in college next year.

Not driving at anything! Just asking questions. I don't know how this process works.

It seems to me like his best option would be to contact a personal NFL trainer in California or something (where his dad supposedly lives) and start working with him immediately. But obviously that would involve either failing all of his classes or just dropping out of the university entirely.

If he drops out, that becomes public knowledge. Which may look bad to NFL scouts and may not. I mean, he wasn't going to graduate anyway, so it may be a moot point. But sticking around in Knoxville for another day makes no sense to me.

who is the player that was supposed to be suspended but played anyways? I have read about this in two or three different places today.

Wonder if there is any way he can be a graduate transfer? I don't see him as that kind of student athlete but I could be wrong.

I will be rooting for the kid.

Supposedly he's at the exact point academically that you would expect of a mid-year junior who never really had plans to stay for four years. So graduating early and playing elsewhere immediately isn't an option.

He was an EE? That would put him a semester ahead.

"We had a good work day yesterday and we're excited to play this week." Derek Barnett on Hurd. "He's just one player."

#Vols DE Derek Barnett said he wishes Jalen Hurd the best but he's just one player "so it's not going to ruin the team."
