2016-2017 Vols

And I watched three times that many games. Very uninformed post. TJ Cromer, first team All SouCon returns at guard. He is joined by 1st team NJCAA All-American and the Region 13 Player of the Year last season, Julian Walters, averaging 18.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game; and also, Devontvius Payne, second team Juco All-American last season for John A. Logan College, ranking 11th in the country in scoring with 21.6 points per game … was the Region 24 Player of the Year. These two are more than adequate replacements for Guyn, not to mention Desonte Bradford who also returns. Battle Royale for guard spots in addition to the posts. This team is loaded.
Lindy's Sports: "Forbes hit the junior college circuit hard, signing four players who are expected to contribute right away. The Bucs have more than enough firepower to overtake the Mocs if they continue to step it up on the defensive end."

Was at Bluenanza last night where two players, Devontavius Payne and TJ Cromer, made national news hitting two mid court shots winning free tuition for two students.

I said that I didn't know who exactly that ETSU had signed. That was the question for me. Those two players in bold above alone sure seem like great additions to this team. I'll check them out & watch some video of them. If that's the case then they just very well may be better than last season.

Still, it's going to be hard to replace Guyn. Also, the starting PG who's name is escaping me right now but made the team go but wasn't a scorer. Bradford, Cromier, & Merriweather will be fine on the perimeter even though Bradford is excellent at penetrating to the basket.

ETSU just might have a better team than our Vols this season after reading what you posted. They should have beat us last season in Knoxville. They play us in Freedom Hall this season. I'm a VFL but the Bucs are my 2nd favorite college team.

It’s looking more and more like Lamonte Turner will primarily play off the ball this season, which isn’t stunning, but it is worth noting that Barnes repeatedly said he would have been the team’s starting point guard a year ago. This week though he described him pretty emphatically as a combo guard more suited to playing on the wing.

The good news is that Jordan Bone has perhaps been the most consistently impressive freshman during the preseason. Barnes is coaching him hard, to say the least, and Bone hasn’t backed down.

The staff also continues to be pleasantly surprised by the ability Kwe Parker has shown at the point. There were big time questions as to whether or not he’d be suited to play there, but at least for now Parker seems to have answered some of those doubts. He’s certainly a much more valuable player if he can contribute at that position.

This proves how bad our PG play was last year. Turner would have played significant minutes with Punter at SG. Very positive quote. Shows we have upgraded position.

What I like is that Parker is showing he can play PG, that's a positive development for sure. If all 3 of those guys were best at the point it would've been a log jam, Turner can likely focus on becoming a scoring guard now going forward.

agreed, just sad how it got to the situation it was in last year. It will be great to have 3 options.

Is Hubbs the biggest bust of that 2013 HS class in regards to expectations to actual results? I really hope he steps up and helps this team overachieve.
He's had an injury every single year he's been here. Let's cut the guy some slack.

And idk about HS Class but Alex Poythress sure was a bust for Kentucky :D

Hubbs has had at least one surgery due to his injuries. Possibly 2 or 3, I haven't been keeping score.

VQ saying Tennessee won the scrimmage today in a close game, Hubbs led scorers with 20+,Turner had double digit points as did Bowden off the bench with 12 points on a perfect 4-4 from 3...Fulkerson also had a nice day off the bench.

Starters were Bone/Turner/Schofield/Hubbs/Alexander

Any way of finding out who the scrimmage opponent was? I believe it was Dayton last season and I don't remember there being a prohibition on revealing who it was. This year, they're acting as if letting the fans know would jeopardize national security.

When you recruit 40 5*s over a 8 year period your bound to have some busts. I would have gone with Orton if you wanted a real bust. Poythress had a major knee injury and never looked the same.

In fairness, Orton did hear voices in his head..... :)

Not sure what you mean.

Orton did have some issues off the court losing his mother and having some bad influence from his brother. One of the few to skip the 2nd semester also. Good kid though. His dad is a great man.

If this team isn't at least good this year, I may need to go to therapy or get on some anti- depressant meds. 10 years of this ****. Lol
