If Hurd is under concussion protocol - that's that. Enough with the rumors. Get him ready for Bama.
As most know I am not one of the orange tinted glasses Butch is infallible guys. I 100% support him as our HC. I do not care for various aspects of his offense. However, if he slots the right players to play it, good to go. We all make mistakes and this is one IMO. Evan Berry should have been on offense. Another example of needing a playmaker that does incredible stuff with the ball in his hands. Evan does not do incredible stuff without the ball in his hands - he is average at best at safety and his upside is limited because he does not have the natural instincts. When he runs with the ball he instinctively knows how to probe with his hips swiveled forward so that he can accelerate through the gap. But they chose not to play him there. So now they may depend on Kelly to get tough yards because Kamara cannot physically pound it and Dobbs will be the D's primary focus. Kelly is tough and has added muscle. But we have no idea if he is a playmaker as they go against a tough opponent on the road in a critical SEC game. Let's all hope he is.
Now that Hurd is confirmed out, I am backtracking on my prediction of a W. Not saying our guys won't win, just saying I no longer have confidence they will. Hurd is a weapon Chavis would have to scheme against. Now - not so much. Some of our biggest wins have come when we were over matched on paper. But IMO it is all on the offensive scheme now. Shoop can probably implement a bend don't break D that holds aTm to 24-28 points. Don't know if Butch/Debord can or will open it up enough to beat that. aTm is a better team than either UF or UGA. They have some real playmakers on both sides of the ball. Time for AirDobbs to happen if it is ever going to. Need 50% of the plays being passes with Dobbs prepared to scramble/roll out and the read option actually being used. Time to ride JJ, Josh, P-Willy, Croom, Wolf, Smith and Byrd. Wide open, with Chavis having to defense the entire field.
