I'm usually quick to point out 30's negavol attitude, but he isn't wrong in this case. What we've seen from that offense isn't going to attract top shelf WRs, and is probably being used against us in QB recruiting as well.
Oh I know we didn't pass well, but we also blasted someone in Clemson's league, and yes we did have a little trouble with AppSt, but they're not a bad program for a small school, not one bit. But it's like he just has to say it, we all know it. I stil would love to get Higgins, I mean why put us down after Clemson barely beats Troy and hasn't looked special this year. Let's talk us up, not down.
I think it's a reasonable and fair assessment that our passing game in its current state will hinder us in recruiting elite skill position players, particularly WR and QB.
It does hinder us and will continue to be a problem until something changes. Recruits at this level want to be in the league. The 4 and 5 star receivers for Clemson take the next step. Our 5 star receivers are struggling to get catches each week.
Recent history is all that matters to a 18 year old. It will take us a year or two for the QB/WR recruiting to recover from the Dobbs era --- and that's IF the next iteration of our passing game is much improved (Lord help us if Debord is as bad as it seems). I'm hopeful the next quarterback will be able to connect with Malone and Williams. We need them to be high round draft picks.
Yeah, I guess. We just haven't given much reason for anyone to "talk us up" offensively.
The person he quoted was dogging Clemson for their slow start without any mention of our very own occasional ineptitude, so I think it's only fair (for objectivity's sake) to point out that neither team has really lit the world on fire to open the season, especially in the passing game as it relates to Higgins' interest.
So in effect, our poor start has not swung him back our way any more than Clemson's poor start has cast any doubt in his mind. I'd love to have him too, but it's not happening outside of a bomb (literal or figurative) hitting the ground in Clemson.
the problem is Watson has completed as many passes as Dobbs has attempted and doubles him in yards too. Malone is the only Wr with over 100 yds Clemson has 2. Someone will say passer rating but when you lead all the way across the board that's what these young 17-18 yr olds look at pass att, yds, tds not a passer rating that they don't know how to calculate. Btw it is even on tds.

I wonder how Zach Collaros and Dan LeFevour were able to overcome Butch Jones pitiful offense to rack up the numbers that they did at Central Michigan and Cincinnati? Not only that posters keep harping on the stats of 2 guys that are not going to be throwing the ball to Tee Higgins or anyone in his class. Tennessee's issue IMO is poor O-line play, lack of a QB coach, and Dobbs struggles with his intermediate passing. This can easily be corrected by canning Mahoney and bringing in a QB coach. Let Debord focus on the O-line.
People have to stop blaming DeBo and Dobbs for everything. !. This is not DeBo's offense. This is CBJ offense that he had at CMU and Cincy. DeBo ran a Pro style I formation offense at Meecheegan. 2. It could be Dobbs but the thing is play calling and route combinations with this offense. Things have improved since Scott's arrival but it is still very bland and bad. The one thing that has become drastically better is the Wr technique and get off at the LOS. 3. You're going to continue to get Dobbs style qbs because that's what is gonna be attracted to UT and this offense. Someone has to completely do away with the offense and the OL coaching in order for us to become a better team offensively.
