Personally I see no reason to worry. It very well could be that Shoop knew he had a ton of talent but wanted to sort out how to best use it.

Some though probably think he spent more time there because he didn't think they were very good.

Either way, it seems a good investment of time considering the issues UT had in the secondary last year.

When you get a new job, you can fail at some things. But you can't fail at the same thing the last guy go fired for.

Don't forget that first and foremost Shoop is a DB expert and second a total defense expert. With him here I see our DBs helping our DL and our DL helping our DBs. They go hand and hand. Look for more takeaways this year whether it be fumbles or interceptions.

Don't go literal on me man...I was backing you up. I meant that some posters on here take these decisions PERSONALLY...way too much so.

A two deep is basically your starting rotation. Pretty much everyone on that list is "1st string".... plus probably a few more. You have to believe that George and Johnson at least get some PT at WR. They'll likely go deeper at TE. Kelly is almost certain to get some 1st string carries at RB over the course of the year.

DE is so deep you have to think at least 6 of them get rotated in. They'll play as many as they have at DT. Not sure about LB but some young guys have received enough positive press to suggest they'll play.


There are a lot of guys good enough to rotate in.

It's an advantage as long as we keep him. Translated pretty well for Saban. Good point on the turnovers.

Sorry. I thought maybe I was arguing with someone's 4th cousin who has now become a rabid Vol fan...:)

No doubt you are right about some getting too locked up over it. Some guys will emerge. Unfortunately, there's a better chance than not that someone will have an opportunity due to injury.

Just glad to be able to "argue" over who is listed first, second, and even third. In August 2009, Dan Williams was really UT's only SEC caliber DT. I seem to remember Wes Brown being the 2nd DT.... at around 270 lbs. He was a DE with bad knees.

I think "Shoops" affect spills over on to our offense also. The offense is having to go up against his extravagant formations and blitzes. It's a win win situation.

A shocker for me was not Richmond starting at LT but a true freshman shown as his #2 behind him, that kid must be very good.

It doesn't mean much with the D line. I expect to see everybody rotating in all game. That's ideal. Keep everybody fresh. Being named a starter is a reward for leadership and or hard work. I expect a different depth chart for the VT game as far as the d line goes.

Nice compliment to his work but it seems more likely that someone else would be moved to LT if something happened to Richmond. Probably Hall if he's healthy.

IMO, it is like Dobbs and Peterman. They wanted to RS Dobbs but when Worley was injured the "real" 2nd string QB took over after Peterman got his shot early vs Bama.

Exactly. Dormady is the best back up for now. If Dobbs was done for the year and we needed to get ready for the future then they would burn the rs and JG would come in.

Well, it seems that after a hard fought competition.... Moseley won the job. Not totally surprising. He led the team in passes defended, had a pick, and was 2nd among CB's to Sutton in tackles last year while not being a full time starter.

Like many, he was a guy playing early and getting more OJT than you really would have wanted for him. He was a HS QB learning to play CB.

I should say that I think Dormady is A LOT closer to being the "real" 2nd string guy than Peterman was.

Glad Nate had a good year at Pitt.... but not unhappy with Jones' choice to start Dobbs.

I also don't get the hate for Moseley...everyone gets burnt sometimes..guy will play in the league imo...remember Coleman? Yeah he's cashing Patriot checks now

Seriously, how much of an impact could an 18-year-old really have had in defensive coverage? He simply allowed a lower completion percentage (36.0 vs. 43.9), yards/coverage snap (0.66 vs. 0.68), and coverage snap/reception allowed (12.1 vs. 13.6) than Florida’s Vernon Hargreaves III. The sky is the limit for this sophomore out of Greensboro, North Carolina.

Agreed...total 180 in talent...remember when we were hoping a Greg Clark or Darren Gooch would pan out?

I don't see Trent Thompson (Georgia) listed as a backup. I don't see Terry Beckner (Missouri) listed as a backup. The other 5 star DTs from his class were already starting LAST YEAR. There is no way they would still be backups as SOPHOMORES.

Hate to say it but Kahlil is looking like a bust. There is no excuse for him not beating out a mediocre talent like Danny O'Brien. Its not like the guys he's playing behind are gonna be high NFL draft picks. Both Vickers and O'Brien are fringe NFL players at best.

All in all I'm super disappointed in him.
