The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

On this evening's news: DMason said "I don't care if you have 100k (people) there, or 50...(you gotta do your best as a player)." Funny.

I guess what he meant is: his team must always play with earnest, because there's always someone watching (whether it be 100,000 watching if at Neyland, or only 50, if at home).

I would agree with his statement, but he could leave the little brother side of it out. "I don't care if you only have 50 people there you got to do your best as a player" would have been a much better statement and gotten the same point across.

did 50 people even show up to their spring practice this year?

he never stops talking. Cant win any games and never shuts up.

Vandy has like 3-4 SEC caliber players on their entire roster. Mason's recruiting is abysmal and almost all of Franklin's guys who should be seniors now were busts or left the program.

Honestly, if they had a "CEO" type coach who wasn't particularly adept at either side of the ball, they would be in danger of being a 1-11 or 2-10 type team even in year 3. They just flat out have not improved the talent level one iota since Mason was hired nearly 3 years ago. In fact, it is now worse.

All that said, if Shoop is a one and done guy, I would be perfectly content to see him go to Vandy and Butch to scoop up Mason as our DC. He is still a coordinator masquerading as a head coach, IMO.

I don't see Butch ever hiring Mason. He'll never let on publicly but I've heard from a couple different people that Butch can't stand Mason. Said he comes off as elitist prick that thought he could make vandy the Stanford of the SEC.

this. go through their roster and see how many of their guys would start for us or get solid playing time.

QB- nope.
RB- Webb is a good RB but at best he is number 3 maybe 4 on this team
WR- lots of unproven all around I don't think they have anyone you can point to and say you would rather have than our WRs
TE- they usually have some good ones we might take their best but again he would probably be our number 3.
OL- we take take one of their tackles. again not necessarily to start (he could idk about their tackles) but more than likely he is also just depth.

DE- lol nope
DT- which Alexis back and Tuttle coming right along I would say no, but they do have a decent DT/NT guy
LB- Cunningham would be a good three for us and may start in Shoops 3rd Lber spot.
CB- McGaster would challenge for the second CB spot with Moseley & Martin
S- I don't know about any of theirs but we are solid on the back end

P- nope
K- ehh maybe
KR- lol nope
PR- lol nope, hopefully Sutton houses it again for a third straight year

anybody got any names they would add?

Webb wouldn't be as low as 4. We don't have 3 better backs on the team. He's a very good player that belongs with a different program.

He would be #3 technically but he would be part of a 3-headed monster here. He would split carries with Hurd and Kamara.

Also give me Torren McGaster over Moseley/Martin.

Not gonna lie--I'm slightly bummed that I won't be able to attend Vandy's opener and cheer for them to lose due to Tennessee playing at the same time. Had a great time at the Temple and WKU games.

I honestly don't know who I want to win. I hate Vandy and I hate muschamp haha.

I think a 3-0 win for either team where both offenses set the game of football back 100 years would be fine with me.

Haha true. I mean both teams are not going to be good. I feel like VU may win basically Bc I think Carolina is gonna be the worst team in the east. Probably the worst team in the SEC. I still think Vandy is about a 5 win team though

I can't imagine wanting Mason here, but it is sort of fun to imagine Vandy fans' reactions. (all 20 fans)

As much as I dislike vanderbilt, I'm not sure in this one. Reading message boards is good toilet material so I've been casually looking at other teams boards including south carolina's. A pretty decent percentage think South Carolina is an 8-9+ win team this year. At least on vandymania they are grounded in reality with most predictions in the 4-7 win range. Maybe I'm way off base but I see the bottom half of the east playing out as vanderbilt, kentucky, missouri, and then south carolina. Wouldn't mind seeing muschamp go winless.

I gave you a "like" for saying you would not mind Muschamp to go winless. I really hope he does!!!

7 wins is not reality for Vandy.

Trigger warning, it's a Tennessean article.

How Vanderbilt punts may affect concession sales

And some interesting stats from that article:

And most notably, the Commodores allowed 468 yards on punt returns, the most of any FBS team.

“The punt team struggled in a few different areas, but the most glaring was punt return yardage allowed,” Genyk said. “The 2015 team allowed 468 yards on punt returns. That’s almost 40 yards a game in punt returns. It’s hard to do that and still put yourself in a good field position standpoint.”

Genyk not only wants to drastically reduce that 468 punt return yards allowed, but he also wants Vanderbilt to improve its net punting, which averaged 33.5 yards per game to rank 119th among 127 FBS teams last season.

Punt ret. yards allowed total: 127th in FBS (14th in SEC)

Yards allowed per punt ret.: 123rd in FBS (13th in SEC)

Net punting: 119th in FBS (14th in SEC)

Punt ret. TDs allowed: 117th (14th in SEC)

Punts blocked: T107th in FBS (T13th in SEC)

Did they really write an article about the punt team stats??? The offense and defense must be kept under wraps

When the reporter was told he had to do a story about vandy football....

...and then you get a story about the punt team.
