The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

Yeah but Franklin is still their ex-boyfriend lol.

Speaking of which, I wonder if this will be his last year there. I can't see them putting up with another 6-6/7-5 year after 3 years.

I saw a couple of sites that predict they will win against USCe. The betting line is Vandy -3 according to Odds Shark.

I'd almost take those odds on USC winning and/or beating the spread though I can't stand Muschamp or Vandy.

Actually I meant Franklin at PSU; I think Mason is there for 5 years minimum regardless of how bad he does.

Marrying a Penn State grad who is part of a Penn Stat Alumni board for our city so I actually have a little insight into this.

No one is particularly enthused about football this year and no one is particularly happy with Franklin being at the helm either. So I wouldn't be surprised if they ditched him too.

Ah, got it. And I agree.

Penn State will be getting a tad angry this year if they flop another season even with the (alleged) power of the Big 10 East. By this time, Jimmy Frank should have many of his players in house and running the offense fairly smoothly. And like CBJ last year, he needs to show significant improvement over and above what he's done. But it's looking like that's a tough row to hoe given the schedule this year.

And us stealing Shoop from him likely set him back a couple of years on the defensive side of the ball. And you know he was/is seething about it.

I don't. Plenty of people tried to tell him not to believe the crap that came out of Franklin's mouth but noooo. And then he has the audacity to run his mouth when vandy goes through its best stretch in football in program history that just so happened to coincide with the worst stretch of football in Tennessee's history. Screw him. Next time learn to look at the big picture, not just flash in a pan.

I get that, but as far as I know he hasn't been a douche about it.

I would imagine this injury starts him down a road towards giving up football...that sucks for anybody.

I guess I blame their "success" against us on Kiffin/Dooley. I couldn't care less how a few fans act.

Fred, I am going to guess you do not live in the Mid-State or if you do it is not in the Davidson/Williamson County area. I have lived in Nashville, or Mid-State area all my life. Have a cousin who graduated from candy, and a daughter getting a Masters there now (she is not a candy fan, she loves her some Vols, they just offered the degree she was after and was accepted). They are now and always have been a$$holes. But during the Jimmy Frank era the were insufferable around here. They made Fl and Bama fans look rational, heck you would have thought they invented football and had won the last 20 Natty's the way they acted. At least Bammers and reptiles have some right to crow. I dispise candy and hope they lose every game by a 100. The only way I would ever root for candy is if it helped UT's cause and we actually needed the help. GBMFO BEAT CANDY and ever' body else.

It was pretty bad those 3 years, and they had Clay Travis as their mouthpiece. Which is another reason I'll never trust Travis as a "real" Vol fan again.

I never really paid much to Vandymania either until those years, and you'd think they had a legacy football program if you visited during that time.

His gf was going to Vandy. He also wanted the Vandy education. UT stinking up the place at the time sealed the deal. His parents were season ticket holders and life long Vol fans. Things just were playing out bad for UT.

I hated Travis as a turncoat during that period as well. Looking back though, he was the only outspoken voice against Dooley from the start.

I didn't mind being outspoken about Dooley, but he took it way too far. He started ridiculing UT itself and pumping Vandy. No real Vandy fan would have every said and done the things he did.

He said UT should have bought out the Vandy game in 2011. He trash talked that Vandy would kill UT all week in 2011, and when UT won, he then started trashing UT for celebrating so much for "just beating Vandy".

He also kept being this way after Dooley left. When Vandy won in 2013 he basically rubbed it in on Twitter. He didn't change his tune until 2014 when it was apparently Mason was a joke.

I have grown up in TN and now live in rural midstate TN. It is probably a situation where I personally haven't been around Vandy fans. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I've ever met a Vandy fan that wasn't going to grad school there. And in all of those cases they pulled for other SEC teams before Vandy. I'm not just trying to go against the grain in this thread, but Clay Travis was spot on with Dooley. He called that bad hire from the beginning. Whereas, people like me made excuses for him.

Vandy has like 3-4 SEC caliber players on their entire roster. Mason's recruiting is abysmal and almost all of Franklin's guys who should be seniors now were busts or left the program.

Honestly, if they had a "CEO" type coach who wasn't particularly adept at either side of the ball, they would be in danger of being a 1-11 or 2-10 type team even in year 3. They just flat out have not improved the talent level one iota since Mason was hired nearly 3 years ago. In fact, it is now worse.

All that said, if Shoop is a one and done guy, I would be perfectly content to see him go to Vandy and Butch to scoop up Mason as our DC. He is still a coordinator masquerading as a head coach, IMO.

I'd be perfectly content keeping Shoop as long as we can, though I agree he's likely going to move on to bigger and better things.

However, I disagree with Mason being a good coordinator. While he isn't bad, he doesn't have the recruiting skills necessary to compete in the SEC IMO. Maybe that's more because it's Vandy, maybe it's because Mason isn't a natural talent on the recruiting side. But I tend to wonder how much David Shaw was helping run the defense when Mason was at Stanford.

I agree Mason will likely end up in another program, but I'm not sure UT is the place for him. Let him go run his 3-4 someplace else.

this. go through their roster and see how many of their guys would start for us or get solid playing time.

QB- nope.
RB- Webb is a good RB but at best he is number 3 maybe 4 on this team
WR- lots of unproven all around I don't think they have anyone you can point to and say you would rather have than our WRs
TE- they usually have some good ones we might take their best but again he would probably be our number 3.
OL- we take take one of their tackles. again not necessarily to start (he could idk about their tackles) but more than likely he is also just depth.

DE- lol nope
DT- which Alexis back and Tuttle coming right along I would say no, but they do have a decent DT/NT guy
LB- Cunningham would be a good three for us and may start in Shoops 3rd Lber spot.
CB- McGaster would challenge for the second CB spot with Moseley & Martin
S- I don't know about any of theirs but we are solid on the back end

P- nope
K- ehh maybe
KR- lol nope
PR- lol nope, hopefully Sutton houses it again for a third straight year

anybody got any names they would add?

I've read a lot of praise for Mason as a DC from other coaches and football guys. I forgot that he runs a 3-4 though. That would probably disqualify him for the job right off the bat.

From what I've seen of CBJ, he wants a good coach as well as a great recruiter. Mason might be a good coach, but a recruiter he is not from what I've seen.

Again, maybe it's because nobody worth a darn wants to play for Vandy.
