So tell me...how many 40+ yard TD passes did Hobbs throw last year? You really think VT is slow with no athletes? You do realize that both VT and Tennessee basically recruit and go after the same prospects.

Larry,
You seem to think GA not Florida is who we should worry about in the east. Florida talks about how their defense will be better and front 7 is so good. See qb as their main weakness or is defense going to take a hit? I think both honestly. Just wondering your opinion
I'm assuming one of the main reasons Shoop was brought in was to beat Florida and hold a lead in the fourth. I think he can, but does he make that much difference from what you've seen?A few reasons Georgia more threat than Florida, IMO.
Georgia road game, Florida home game.
We should have beaten Florida last two years. Thought we were better team. Think we have gotten better than them since last year.
Think Georgia more talented than Florida.
I'm not just dismissing Florida. As I said we should have won the last two years. Staff has to help the players more this year than the last two IMO. Tennessee also has to get out of the scared of Florida frame of mind which we have played with for a long, long time except for a few occasions. Our chances still should be better versus Florida than Georgia.
Good post D4H.I think we will skull drag them in between the hedges.Recruiting rankings are just a piece of the puzzle. They are not the whole picture. Just look at Georgia's 2013 class. Georgia 2013 Football Commits
On paper it was higher rated than our 2013 class and should theoretically be more talented. But if you look at the names, you'll see our class was WAY BETTER. Tennessee 2013 Football Commits
Dobbs > Brice Ramsey
Sutton > any DB they signed
JRM > Tim Kimbrough
Dylan Wiesman and Corey Vereen have also developed into more quality starters than anybody Georgia signed that class at those positions. In fact, the only real quality player Georgia signed that class was Leonard Floyd and he's already in the NFL so he won't be helping them next year.
Our classes have outperformed their rankings so far. If there is anything Butch Jones has proven, its that he can EVALUATE and DEVELOP talent.
I could care less what the recruiting rankings say, we're vastly more talented than Georgia.

Do you think that has been the case the past two seasons?
Seems like the Vols felt fairly confident in 2014 and exceptionally so in 2015 (saw a lot of mock chomp gestures from our players after big plays).
Gestures are not necessarily signs of confidence. Might be masking fear.
Yes, I think when Florida comes on the field against Tennessee they believe they can win (likely will be that way this year also) and Tennessee tends to hope they can win. They really don't go in believing.
I know people will pooh-pooh that but seen a lot of players. you can tell the one's that are confident and those that play not confident. I've sat in Knoxville for many a game we have lost and could tell when the two teams came out on the field who was confident and who was not. You can just feel it.
In 1982, from before the kick off, you could tell Tennessee was going to take it to Alabama. You just knew they really had a chance to win and Bama was far more talented.
now this is just my opinions...
Straight question.
Do you think VT is as good or nearly as good as OU at this time last fall? UT will bring a MUCH better team into this game than the one that took OU to the wire.
The best source I have for stats doesn't list 40+ yd TD passes. And I don't really know anyone on UT's team named Hobbs.
But if you were talking about Dobbs, he had 57 passes of 15 plus yds and another 27 rushes of more than 10 yds.
Your whole team had 63 passes of 15+ and 56 rushes of 10 or more.
Dobbs threw a pass that went for 15+ every 6.04 attempts. VT threw one once every 6.25 attempts.
Dobbs rushed for 10+ on avg once every 5.4 attempts including sacks. VT rushed for 10+ once every 9.73 attempts as a team.
And remember that UT played a MUCH more difficult schedule.
So what was your point again?
Yes I do believe that VT will be as good as OU was. I also believe that the Vol's will be better then they were. My who point was that VT will compete in this game. I still think the Vol's win, they have the better athletes. But by no mean is Virginia Tech slow and gonna get killed in this game. Dobbs will not win this game thru the air. He just might win it with his legs, but he alone wont do it thru the air. Our biggest concern for this game, is trying to contain your running backs. I don't think we will completely stop them, but if we can hold them both to under 150 yards combined, we have a chance to win.
I certainly don't think our guys feared the Gators whatsoever in 2015. Could make a case for it in 2014, though. Both games involved blown leads but 2014 felt more like the coaches and players let it slip through their hands due to coaching/playing way too tight, whereas 2015 felt more like the Gators just made some miracle plays (with a little help from our coaches and players, of course).
The whole point to this post was the comment that Dobbs will throw multiple 40+ yard touchdowns in this game. Hence the question "how many 40+ TD's did Dobbs throw last year?" I wasn't trying to be rude or disrespectful.
I understand this is a Vol site, but every time I chime in with something about VT, I get bashed. Heck, some of you guys bash your own fans more then I have ever witnessed before.
Again, I didn't come to this site to troll and piss people off, I came to learn about your team, and have fun, entertaining conversations about this game. I guess because I think VT will compete in this game, I'm a homer!
WOW. Would you like to put some meat on those bones? VT isn't CLOSE to as talented or deep as OU. Not even in the same universe.Yes I do believe that VT will be as good as OU was.
They definitely should be. As opposed to last year and years past, UT has come through fall camp with very few injuries. There are only a couple of potential contributors that will miss the 1st game. Last year the list numbered in the teens. Also after playing around 18 or more Freshmen in each of the last two years, the only ones likely to play this year are either WR's where UT has a thin spot or because they are that good like Nigel Warrior apparently.I also believe that the Vol's will be better then they were.
And again.... football is a funny game where overwhelming talent doesn't necessarily mean you'll win. Other than that.... you sound much like Northestern, USU, NCSU, et al fans from the last few years. You were a mediocre team against a bad schedule last fall. You have a great DC and IMO have made a great hire at HC. But you do not have the players to win this game.... and it shouldn't be all that close. My who point was that VT will compete in this game. I still think the Vol's win, they have the better athletes. But by no mean is Virginia Tech slow and gonna get killed in this game.
Supposedly he's improved. It is a concern that most UT fans share. BUT... he HAS won games throwing the ball against D's better than yours. Last year vs UGA and two years ago vs USCe are obvious examples.Dobbs will not win this game thru the air. He just might win it with his legs, but he alone wont do it thru the air.
I've watched several of your games now. You of course don't have to but maybe you should watch some of UT's against better opponents. UT put 254 yds on UF while missing some starting OL's. That was more than LSU or Bama did. UT was 2nd only to LSU in ypc at 4.98.Our biggest concern for this game, is trying to contain your running backs. I don't think we will completely stop them, but if we can hold them both to under 150 yards combined, we have a chance to win.
Sorry. I didn't make that comment and didn't see it. Some folks here get a little carried away. I do it myself every once in a great while....:blink:The whole point to this post was the comment that Dobbs will throw multiple 40+ yard touchdowns in this game. Iron sharpens iron. We disagree over things but on game day.... We ARE Volnation.I understand this is a Vol site, but every time I chime in with something about VT, I get bashed. Heck, some of you guys bash your own fans more then I have ever witnessed before.
