3 teams in the West look better than Tennessee

Ole Miss vs Tennessee, very similar teams, except:

Only 1 of the 2 lost to a G5 team last year.

Only 1 of the 2 lost a ton of talent to the NFL last year.

You could also throw in only 1 of the 2 beat the #1 team in the country each of the last two years.

Chad Kelly will keep Ole Miss in some games this year. I think we are better top to bottom, but I don't take offense to seeing a preseason ranking have them above us.

Here's to hoping Shoop's troops can make a huge difference this year.

Last year is last year though. You could also say "only 1 of the 2 beat Alabama last year" or "only 1 of the 2 played in/won a New Year's 6 bowl last year" or "only 1 of the two finished the season ranked in the top 10."

Oddly enough both lost games to Arkansas last year.

There's ALABAMA....4 of the last 7 NCs....

and then there's the rest of the SEC...East or West....

Anyone who is putting anyone else above the VOLS is just banking on our last 8 years of our misery....

And anyone (including myself) who is counting on the VOLS to win the SEC East is just banking on our POTENTIAL...

Neither the past, nor our potential will win ONE GAME....
IN-GAME coaching and athletic production WINS GAMES!

I'm sick of all the talk (including my own)--JUST WIN THE DERN GAMES!

GO VOLS!! :salute:

And as an added bonus:

2015 AP Preseason Poll (SEC ranked Teams)

Auburn #6
Georgia #9
LSU #14
Ole Miss #17
Arkansas #18
Tennessee #25

2015 Season Final AP Poll (SEC Ranked Teams)

Alabama #1
Ole Miss #10
LSU #16
Tennessee #22
Florida #25

I think the argument that makes the most sense is that we have almost a decade of mediocre performance to overcome, image-wise. Now, that doesn't apply to us on this board but it applies to many outside of Volnation. Connelly said he didn't trust us and he gave the same reasons that have been posted on this board by some of our own fans over the past few days. Last year we pretty much ended up doing what was expected. Auburn didn't and others underperformed as well. Florida need doping help to do better than expected but in the end their product on the field stank like the swamp filth that they are. The point is - we've established some consistency and our identity is on film. We just have to keep it up year after year in order to win back the trust of the current skeptics. In any given year some teams are going to be overrated and some teams are going to be underrated. Even during the Dooley years many analysts were prone to jump on the band wagon before or at the beginning of the season. They got burned enough that we no longer have the benefit of our heritage. We actually have to earn it back. This year we're going to start the season in or close to the top 10. I will be very pleased if we end the season in a similar position.

Ole Miss is NOT better than us.... who is their elite RB and WR? Lost several on D as well. They are definitely very good, but they are not the same team as last year.

Im just glad all the speculation is about to stop. The season is less then 2 weeks away, and we can see who is or isnt the best this year. I think its really telling though that we are finally in all the conversation about who will be among the best in the sec. We just have to prove it now on the field, GBO!!!!!!!!

I'm not comfortable saying that.

I'm not sure any team in the nation is BETTER than Tennessee right now. I think Bama is certainly as good as us, and may have a slight edge especially toward the end of the game with their incredibly talented depth. But we're talking small measurements.

Same in reverse for LSU; I think we may be a smidge better, but it'd be very close. Our advantage against Ole Miss is a bit bigger, but still close enough that either team could win on the field on any given Saturday.

Bottom line is, there's too much variance in EVERY team from week to week to say X is better than Y when all the teams being considered are this close in talent and coaching. Is why it has to be played out on the field.

Go Vols!
Last year's Bama team was 5 points better than us. Team 120 IMO is pretty much that same team with improvements and experience. I do not see the 2016 Tide taking the field at their opener better than last year's NC group. Will they be as good or better on the 3rd weekend in October? That's why you play the game, I think we beat 'em.

Top half of SEC:

Bama
LSU
Tennessee
Ole Miss
Georgia
Texas AM
Florida

in that order.

LSU is not better than us. Their fans are worried about the QB. Fournette is probably the best overall RB in the nation, but ours are pretty darn good. With that possible exception, there is not a one of their players that I would take in a trade for our guy in any given position. Their defense is starting to get riddled with injuries ... and this is their first year of trying to put in the 3-4. I hope they have a decent year, but they are not better than the Vols. I hope this is the last year for that strutting poser Miles.

Well, I guess there's only one thing left to do. Win the whole f'ing thing.

I love the attitude, I just wish Team 120 could bottle our perception and enthusiasm and use it on the field, we would win every game 1235-6

Yup! There's a reason they're called Ole MISS! "Hottie toddy, snotty potty".

Call me crazy but I think Ole Miss is winning the West. The teams with the craziest offseason will meet in ATL.

I will call you crazy then. I think Ole Miss starts the season 1-3 with losses to Florida St, Alabama and Georgia. I see them doing no better than 8-4 on the season with 7-5 being a strong possibility. It's not that they're terrible, they did lose a lot and they play a brutal schedule (at Arkansas and at LSU in back to back weeks immediately following the toughest September schedule I've ever seen).
