It's not elite, but a lot of kids don't even know how to run a 40. Terrell Owens clocked a 4.7 at the combine...def faster than that. Is the kid going to camp in the next few seasons? They work on fundamentals that help. Does he PLAY faster than the kids around him? Standing out in that department will attract more college scouts. Don't know your relationship, but get him involved with the track team.

Friend of the family.

freshman year - David Santiago III highlights - Hudl

Not a professional (hey Breaker!) but it looks like there's material to work with there. Seems he works against himself a little during backpedals. Minute changes in fundamentals. Above my pay grade and just my observations.

He's not afraid to go after the ball and place a hit on anyone. Plays above his size from the games I watched last year. However, he has the normal teenage metabolism (to my envy) of being able to eat a half a cow and not gain significant weight.

Thanks for the insight. I'll pass on the suggestions about the camps and track.

GV there are guys who do "agility training" here in Murfreesboro. One in particular played for Florida and in the NFL. Hearing kids are shaving 40 times.

Don't know where you are located but I'm sure this is available in most larger areas.

What I don't like about bolt and phelps in the conversation for greatest athlete is that they didn't play against anyone trying to stop them.

Jordan, Ali, Thorpe, Jackson, Gretzky, etc all played against people and teams trying to stop them in every way possible.

Bolt and phelps just compete against air/water as the only resistance.

Just curious for those in the know, but is a 4.85 40 a decent time for a HS freshman as a safety?

Not bad for a frosh in HS especially for a safety. I came into HS at around that same 40 time. By senior year, I was running a 4.65. Lifting weights and practicing running goes a long way.

How are things?

Things are great! Thanks for asking. I am now the proud father of a healthy 2 week old boy. Football season will be tricky trying to watch the games without being my usual loud boisterous self, but I'll adapt. Hope all is well on your end.

Great news brother! Glad he arrived a little early so you could be settled back in and ready for football season. :) Things are alright. I'm in the process of changing career fields. It is going to take a while because we want to wait until next summer to move so our girls don't have to switch schools in the middle of the year. It will all work out though. Congrats again on the new addition!

That makes them even more remarkable, IMO. on their way to smashing records, they only had their internal competitive drive pushing them to smash world records. All the hours on the track and in the pool, that was them mentally defying pain and turning themselves inside out despite only competing against themselves.

Exactly. Just because there isn't someone physically trying to stop them does not make their physical accomplishments any less amazing. They are both incredible physical specimens and definitely deserve to be on the greatest athletes ever list.

Congrats. I know what you mean about watching football with a newborn. When UT came back and beat S. Carolina in 2014, my silent yell would have been deafening (it actually still even made a little noise LOL). When Croom caught the pass in the endzone to send it to overtime, I had to hand the little guy off to my wife really fast for a big fist pump.

Putting Ali on here and not Michael Phelps and Bo Jackson is beyond laughable to me if we're talking greatest "athletes"

He plays a sport with a high barrier of entry and has an inflated medal count because swimming award medals for doing the same thing in different ways.

Most people in the world don't have access to swimming pools. As a result, most countries don't have serious swimming programs. Swimming is restricted to very rich countries. So we really have no idea how great Phelps is because the pool of competitors he goes against is limited. Unlike Bolt who goes against everyone because running has almost no barrier to entry. Everyone in the world regardless of wealth can run.

And then about the medal count. Swimming has all these weird derivations of doing the same thing. Butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, etc. You have freestyle relays, medley relays, butterfly relays, etc. Basically all these different derivations of the same thing that inflate a medal count.

In track its the 100m, 200m, 400m, etc. Usain Bolt didn't have the liberty to winning medals in the 100m run backwards or the 200m skipping.

IMO there is no comparison between Bolt and Phelps as athletes. Bolt is significantly more impressive.

I had to bring a client to the UK hospital today, so I thought while I'm waiting on them I'll drive over and see if I can catch practice. Their brand new practice facility has a parking lot on a little hill overlooking it. So I'm about 100 yards from them. From what I can tell, they are a pretty lackadaisical squad. I've seen HS practices more organized and intense than this. And before anybody asks, I'm not posting the pics I took because I don't want to get in trouble.

I'm pretty convinced that Stoops is essentially a better recruiting Joker Phillips. That loss against Louisville last year was pitiful. Bowl game on the line and up 3 TDs and they lost. Not just lost, but lost badly.
