'17 TN RB Ty Chandler (UT signee)

Ha. Yes we should always do what Ron wants but this kid is a big get I would see something closer to NSD and also I would think we want to make him happy and let him make his splash.

I would bet that he would want the best possible players to accompany him to UT next summer when they enroll. The best way to help influence that is for a top recruit like Chandler to go public and start getting in other top recruits' ears.

I do not necessarily disagree but we don't know what kind of personality he has. He may not be one to get in people's ears or he may want to do it without being committed. I do think his impact on the class by being publicly committed is overstated.

I agree that we don't know his personality and I would never really want a kid to go public before they were ready. It is nice to see so good news on a top RB.

Also have to consider if the staff is selling Chandler and Akers on being THE GUY that one committing might affect the other. If the staff feels TC is in the bag and want both, having him wait while they work on Akers is possible.

Of course opposing staffs are telling HS RBs that Kamara and Hurd both will be back next year.

Even if they were (which they wont be) they would both be seniors when these kids are true freshman. Still would be a great situation for any true freshman to step into.

Chandler still seems to be taking it easy, as he has throughout the recruiting process. Everything I've heard suggests Tennessee still is in pretty good shape there, but Auburn, Georgia and some other teams remain in the mix. I wouldn't expect a decision from him very soon, but we will see where he ends up visiting this fall. He previously has discussed going to Florida and USC, among others, in addition to returning to Tennessee at some point.

"Right now he's not a take for Georgia as they wait to see what D'Andre Swift is going to do. USC and Ole Miss are the biggest threats for Tennessee, but I think he's pretty close to a lock for the Vols at this point, assuming there's a spot for him."

And Fortenberry said he's not really feeling OM. Sounds like we're in pretty good shape here.

Perhaps Hugh is seeing the writing on the wall and is not willing to go head to head with Butch on a long recruiting battle again, after seeing how Richmond and Kongbo both ended.

We need both backs and with our recent dominance in the run game and two high draft picks leaving, we should be able to get both or something is wrong.

Well this should be fun. My cousin starts on the O line for MBA, just texted me saying

"Good news, Ty is reallyyy close to committing, between us (UT), ole miss and USC. But I would definitely say UT has the lean. He's a pretty quiet humble guy so it's hard to tell sometimes. He's also up to 200lbs now (from 175-180 last year)."

Ty Chandler and John Kelly in the backfield? I'll allow it.

Chandler, Trey Smith, and possibly flip Higgins and the in state recruiting doesn't look as bad anymore.

Nobody could say a word then. We would've gotten about everyone we wanted. Amari Rogers was never coming here and to be honest it's not that big of a loss. I wonder if he would be that well thought of had he not been Tee Martin's son. Richardson was never that high on our board so I don't count that one as a loss.
