Always on the players to execute? Never the coaches?

And who is this cool headed coach you'd like to see hired?

I have no idea. It doesn't even have to be an assistant coach. Is the "chart" that Coach Jones uses practical and quick enough?

I don't know, we're on the cutting edge of technology at UT, how about going to the archives and analyzing a bunch of past late-game situations and writing a computer program in which you plug in the situation and have it spit back out a range of options from conservative to aggressive.

Even if you didn't use it on the field, if you are a coach or coordinator, you could use that to drill yourself so that options come more readily to mind in the heat of the moment on game day.

The point is that in my opinion, the coaches need to grow and improve in their ability recognize the need to make adjustments and counter-adjustments, and in cool-headedly making correct late-game calls.

In retrospect, the same could be said of the UF game until the last drive. I still believe, the D just flat out ran out of gas in the stretch in those 2 games, which had as much to do with quality depth and guys not making plays as calling the wrong plays.

That's my take on it as well.

Griffith scattered some brain cells while he was covering Michigan St. The other day he criticized Hurd for wearing a green jersey, said he should take more
of a leadership role and get in there and mix it up if he wanted the team to respect him.

WHAT? I think that was the stupidest thing I've ever heard from a beat writer. If Hurd is wearing a green jersey its because Butch wants him in one. Case closed.

Wow. I must have missed that. He can pack his sh** and go back to Michigan if that's the kind of crap he's going to write. We have enough pseudo sports journalists covering UT football as it stands now.

Nah, should have run the hook and ladder instead of kicking a 55 yard FG.

Plenty of mistakes to go around, both on the players and CBJ. Learn from it and move on.

Florida made plays to win the game.

2016 is our year to set things right.

Does Butch Jones need to improve his tackling or coverage skills? I'm afraid that's on the players as players play and coaches coach, pretty simple really.

Pffftt, get outta here. You know that Butch has to coach and play. Butch is 100% to blame for all losses and 0% responsible for any wins.

. . . I still believe, the D just flat out ran out of gas in the stretch in those 2 games, which had as much to do with quality depth and guys not making plays as calling the wrong plays.

It also has to do with them being on the field too long. If the offense stays on the field, the D doesn't get gassed.

Again, I don't think it is fair to be hyper-critical of any coach in hindsight. Winning and losing is the sum of the approach and the execution every time, all the time.

From my observations so far.....CBJ offense has the pedal to the medal when they are playing from behind.

When they lead the good teams they tend to let up on offense...letting off the steam. Rely on the defense was a bad idea last season....giving up 4th downs, bad penalties keeping drives alive, rushing 3 on 4th and half mile. Maybe Shoop will be the difference.

I think he wears one because Butch doesn't want Hurd killing our own players:thumbsup:

Just to clarify....I wasn't being smart was curious as to if you had someone in mind. And to your point those are great ideas but I have to believe that if it were that simple and a program existed to do that then all coaches would already be implementing it.

Can you imagine what the thread would be like if Hurd got a separated shoulder doing the Circle of Life drill with Kirkland? Last time I checked The University of Tennessee is not on our schedule this year. :p

absolutely agree that the D was on the field too long, as well as the last statement. Quality depth may have alleviated guys being gased - which created windows that OU and UF definitely took advantage of....but its hindsight and speculation at this point.

I just don't think the O was "intentionally conservative". I watched both games live on tv and it just seem nothing was going right (consistently) in the 2nd halves.

The other day I read through the play by play on ESPN, so it may not be accurate, and it appeared there were numerous incomplete passes, TFL / negative yardage plays and penalties that thwarted any momentum our VOLS on the various positive plays in those 2 games. It would appear the coaching staff tried to mix it up, but it just didn't work...consistently.

Here's to looking forward to a new season, "better" play calling, quality depth and execution for our VOLS!!
