'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

If this ever were to become a thing, which I'm fine with, I sure as heck don't want a hear a coach say something like, "better jump on board before all the spots are taken."

I suppose it depends on how many spots you have allocated for that recruits position. Say you're taking 2 RBs and one spot is taken in June. The other backs need to know there is only 1 spot left. Maybe as a coach you're waiting on a certain back. If you like 2-3 the same, first come first served.

The point is, if you pressure a kid to commit before he is ready, don't be surprised and shocked when he starts thinking about taking visits. Maybe instead of an early signing period, we should be talking about a rule where there is no such thing as a "verbal commitment" until a certain date so kids and coaches have an opportunity to evaluate their options.

I love the early signing stuff idea. Fact is a lot of recruits and coaches for that matter know where they wanna go or they want that recruit. I'd think sooner they can lock in the better. Recruits have to make tough decisions. They don't have to commit early. Even if a coach says he's running out of spots, it's the recruits choice to pull the trigger or wait. The recruit also needs to understand how a given staff recruits. Clemson fills a spot and it's locked in unless the kid opens it up. At UT it's different. Spots are not locked in. Information that's useful when making a decision obviously.

Facts like that will not be liked around here.

I'm 100% UT but have always had a very different opinion on how recruiting should be handled. I've learned this year Dabo at Clemson literally recruits exactly like I've been saying for a while I'd do it. Most on this board told me big time programs can't do it and win. Obviously that notion is inaccurate as Clemson is doing it and winning. I'd love to see UT adopt the recruiting method. Recruits and their families IMO would welcome it. Its easier to preach family if you're treating them like family. All that said, I'm not becoming a Clemson fan. LOL

Once Butch can land 4 and 5 stars almost exclusively like Bama does, then maybe he will.:)

Why not? You've basically got a foot in the water already. I'm sure they make some tiger paw patches that can cover a Power T. Also, the oranges are similar enough that a casual fan wouldn't notice. We sure would miss you around here but that's a sacrifice we would be willing to make if it means you can follow your heart.

Well of course they are. They change the rules if a kid is highly rated. You really think Dabo tells a 5 star recruit there's no room in the inn if he takes a visit? If so, name some.

He's trolling but, let's just see how much better this so called recruiting style by Dabo is working:

247 Composite Class Rankings

2014- Tennessee 7th
Clemson 17th

2015- Tennessee 4th
Clemson 9th

2016- Tennessee 14th
Clemson 11th

2017- Tennessee 11th*
Clemson 10th*
(*Class no where near finished)

Hmmmmm, and we can't sell the winning that CU can right now.... So yeah, I'll take the Butch method and ignore the troll. Just wait till we are winning big again!!

Yes, UT looks good at 7th in 2014. Lets consider a moment though Tennessee signed 32 kids while Clemson took just 20.

In 2015 UT landed at #4 signing 30 while Clemson took 26.

In 2016 UT landed at #14 signing 23 kids while Clemson was 11th signing 20.

2017 we are ranked 11th with 23 commitments while Clemson is 10th with just 12.

IMO Butch and his recruiting methods worked at first. I always said I'm not sure it works long term. I felt it would catch up to him. IMO that's what we're seeing play out.
