Practice #3 Updates 8.3.16

Awesome man! If you had to give our best position and most questionable position what would it be?

Best position: I'd say overall, probably the defensive line. From what I've seen, they all look in shape (including McKenzie and Kongbo) and they're going full speed. Kyle Phillips has had 2 sacks within the first 2 practices. Corey Vereen has been pretty explosive. I feel sorry for the opponent's right and left tackles, especially if it's Vereen and Kongbo cause both are very fast and powerful off the edge. Also, I really think the receivers will surprise. Preston, Jauan, Malone, and Josh Smith have been solid so far. I'm really surprised with Malone because he's been noted as "not really trying" before but so far, he's probably putting in the most effort. I mean, he's caught a few that seemed uncatchable and out of reach. Also, like I said, Byrd, Callaway and Johnson are also looking solid. I'm still not sold on Jeff George yet. He's tall and athletic, but he's had a few wide open drops, yet can make a contested corner jump ball seem like nothing. He's got to get bigger too. I'm 6'3'' and 185 lbs and my arms are bigger than his right now.

Questionable: Offensive line. We've got some good ones in Thomas, Wiesman, Robertson, and Hall but some of the younger guys need to be more aggressive. I mean, our starting 5 will be good, I'm just worried about the reserves a little. Ryan Johnson will be nasty for sure. Tatum seems kind of soft. I haven't seen a lot, but Drew Richmond has been looking good too. Hopefully he can get more playing time cause he seems to have all the potential to be a first round pick one day. Has great size and ability. Just needs to flip the switch more often. The line seems, overall, a little bit quicker. They had some pulling drills yesterday and they were moving pretty well.

What are your early thoughts of Croom at TE, if any?

I haven't got to see much of the tight ends. However, I've heard some of the guys in the media room talk about how good he's looked. He's definitely got the size. Seeing him on tv or even in the stands doesn't do him justice when you're 5 feet from the guy haha. The only one I've really got to see is Ethan Wolf and he's still doing his thing of being good.

ehh i mean it's early in camp and we still aren't in full pads, but i think this may be one of the most athletic teams in program history. I mean, not even considering the upperclassmen and veterans, the freshmen and sophomores alone are just incredible. There's so much speed at every position. I filmed mckenzie booking it from midfield all the way past the sideline in a drill. I have heard that people within the football program believe tyler byrd will be a future 1st round pick, either on offense or defense. He's just that versatile and talented. From what i've seen, it's only going to get scarier when he becomes more developed in the program. He's already a huge dude, especially for wr.

So to answer your question, yes i think it's very possible. Also, seeing them just the past few days has pretty much thrown out my doubts about the florida game. We're gonna annihilate them.

😍

Kahlil was straight out of HS and didn't play football as a senior.

Kongbo is a grown-ass-man

Plus I don't remember the analysts talking up Kahlil so much last year. Seems like it was us fans pumping him up more. They did talk a lot about how big his legs were.

If Malone finally lives up to his potential this year, look out. There's no stopping this team with him one one side and Williams on the other to go along with our running game. All that has been lackin is the want to in him. If he has that now, it's over.

Great posts. You're the man.

Keep feeding us such valuable info. Especially when it's full pads.

VolNation got way too hyped on him last fall. I agree that the main comments coming from the media types were on his size. I remember one of them saying early on, that the #1 on his jersey looked more like a comma.

I am enjoying contemplating the visual intimidation factor of our D Line this season. I would not want to be an opposing OL looking at our line when lining up for that first snap.

And I actually think that they will play even tougher than they look.

Good news for our O line is that they have to face our D line everyday.

They can only get better from the competition and they won't face but a couple teams all year that will have the quality D line we have.

One of my favorite pictures. QB is done. His own teammate just standing there staring at him and Barnett casually walking away like it's nothing.

Malone was the most consistent WR last year imo
