Thanks man I really appreciate that

No problem man. Glad you decided to hang out a little more. Always good to have new perspectives on here. Looks like you've managed to pull a few others out of the wood works too. Pay it forward and help them get to 100. :good!:

See. What started off as you kicking me and glichtenwalter to the black hole of the "Off Topic Forum" and dragging weallvol (guilty by association) with us turned into a good thing.

You owe me a get out of jail free card now Freak. Which I'm sure I'll use promptly. :)

I'm in a good mood, so, okay. :)

Thanks I'll try. This is the best FB forum on the net and I'm saying that because I'm biased and proud of it

I'm still kinda new at this starting threads and such any feedback would be helpful

I've never started a thread but from what I've observed, it's best to start one with just a players' name. That gets the discussion going quicker. Glad I could help.

Be careful in here though, cause this place is like a fungus in that it grows on you but like herpes cause you can't get rid of it.

That's a thought-provoking article, Weallvol, thanks for linking it.

Tee better than Dobbs
Lewis better than Hurd
Wilson better than JRM
Reggie White better than almost everyone who ever played the game
Carter better than Cam
Hall better than Medley
Jason better than Wolf
Meachem better than all our receivers

Berry might be even with Gault on kick returns. But, Gault could also run the fly route for many long bomb completions. So, got to give that one to Willie.

You are comparing mostly NFL All Pro type players against college guys.

Jax, what I think you're missing is that he's actually comparing college players (who became NFL all-pros) to college players (who very well might become NFL all-pros).

Just because we haven't seen it happen yet, that doesn't mean it won't. In many of these cases, I'd bet money it will.

The author of the article made good, objective comparisons based on solid observations, backed up by stats.

I think Team 120 could just be that good...that we're looking at a bunch of guys who are going to be playing--and playing extremely well--on Sundays after they do great things here.

Go Vols!

Go Vols!

Example: I really like Barnett and think he will have a great pro career with All Pro Honors. But, will he be better than Reggie White? No way.

The better current Vols are compared against some really young ex-Vols.

Cam might become as good as Dale Carter.
Dobbs might be as good as Martin. But, Tee had a NC after his junior year.
Medley could equal Hall.
Malone not close to Meachem.
I love JRM.....but Al Wilson is a one-in-a-decade type player.
Gault was a legend, but maybe Berry can equal that?
Hurd is really good! But, Lewis won Super Bowl as a rookie.

The article simply listed some very tough match-ups for the current Vols IMHO.

Could be, Jax. No one can say you're wrong, because we haven't seen JRM and Malone and Hurd's pro careers play out yet.

On the other hand, it might very well be that 20 years from now, your and my kids will be arguing on these forums about whether any college kid could ever compare to NFL multi-pro-bowlers Cam Sutton and Derek Barnett, the best at their positions ever seen in Knoxville. That could happen too. We just haven't seen it play out yet.

:good!:

Very true! Barnett has a huge upside. It could be an 8-time pro bowler and still not be as good as Reggie White. In the article, Barnett drew the toughest comparison. Cam also has a bright future.

Whether it was indeed, the article compares some of our best current Vols with some of the very best of the All-Time group. Therefore, it is difficult to point at any of those and agree that he is definitely going to be better than the legend.

However, it is an interesting line of thought.
