As we mentioned last week, Kahlil McKenzie has finished his summer strong and will enter camp weighing under 320 pounds. That massive overhaul of his frame should mean a quicker, stronger McKenzie in fall camp. A number of people we've talked to believe he can have a big impact this year and will build off what he did in the spring.
Tyler Byrd continues to generate a lot of buzz and it isn't just because of his ability at wide receiver. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Byrd on a number of different special teams units this fall as he takes special teams as serious as anyone on the team.
A somewhat forgotten man in the defensive line in the midst of all the talk about Barnett, McKenzie and Tuttle working his way back from injury, is Kyle Phillips. Phillips has really impressed this summer in the skill development department and if he can stay healthy he's someone that could have a big impact along the defensive line. He's someone a lot of people on campus are excited to see once the pads are on.
Not much is expected from the three offensive linemen that were brought into the 2016 class, but Nathan Niehaus has been very impressive with his work ethic. The Cincinnati native is up 60 pounds since last fall and passed the 300 pound mark. He's also impressed in his ability to move during conditioning drills.
