Aaron Murray vs Josh Dobbs as passers

I mostly agree with this, with the caveat that worse passers than Dobbs have had some really productive seasons throwing the football in CFB before.

If he can just connect on 1-2 deep balls per game in 2016, it will be enough to keep defenses more honest and for the offense to really start running efficiently.

What does everyone consider a deep ball?
1. YAC does not count, just the throw to catch dynamic
2. over 10 yard pass
3. over 20 yard pass
4. over 30 yard pass

I've been seeing these threads all summer and y'all are going overboard with this stuff.

1. Dobbs is not a great passer.

2. Dobbs is not going to be a great passer

3. Dobbs does not need to be a great passer.

All Tennessee needs from Dobbs is to be is good enough in the 4 or 5 games they need him to be in order to keep defenses honest.

For the majority of the season, he won't have to do jack squat as a passer.

Good luck getting people to understand this. I 100% agree with you though. Dobbs just needs to be a slightly better version of himself this year and we will win big. If he can make just a slight improvement in his passing game in order to keep the defenses honest, his playmaking ability will take us far.

But there are some posters here that are hellbent on making Dobbs one of the greatest passers in CFB history. Good luck dealing with that.

If my short term mem serves me (as I was just re-watching it early week), Dobbs was 3/11 for passes >20 yrds going in to the ARK game (including the games against BG and West Car).

Dobbs was the recipient of the 2nd longest reception of the year, at 58 yrds, on a pass from Juan Jennings whose longest reception of the year was 30 yrds (14 for 149 yrds).

Von Pearson had the most reception gains, at 409, the longest of which was 45 yrd, which = the 3rd longest team reception of the year, which = 1 of only 10 total team receptions => 30 yrds for the year (longest being 75, Dobbs to Malone, not Malone to Dobbs has some might wrongfully assume).

That's all I have to offer at the moment, regarding yards gained, not distance of passes.
