Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXVI

Here shortly the articles will start popping up on the front page of 247 talking about the commitments that are no longer commitments for us. Its usually in Nov or Dec, but I'd guess it's going to get cranked up much quicker this cycle. Some will sound like the recruit wanted to look around, some will say they were dumped. Unfortunately it's the negative media this sort of recruiting brings.

With us having so many commitments so early, it might be a situation where a kid loses his spot, then the new commit loses his spot closer to NSD. We might do some double git shirts.

I hear you, but there's got to be a couple of kids out there with us up at the top of their short list who will see us filling up and go with option B, or will not take that official visit or pursue us more than they would if they thought we had room.... I know folks will say that if a top tier kid wants in, we will certainly make room, but the kid has to ask or be told in the first place not to pay attention to the numbers everyone else is seeing, that we will make room, and that conversation may not be pursued by said kid if he thinks we are full. I sincerely believe the coaches know what they are doing, but the last couple of weeks have not made a lot of sense. Then we take another lower tier QB with a weak offer list? Elite talent wins championships, not a roster full of 3* with a lot of potential.

Hey-zeus! Calm the fug down.

I'm good now, just needed to go negative-rogue for a minute... just frustrated with elite talent looking elsewhere/out of state, and we seem to be happy with 3* projects with potential... that doesn't win championships and I am really pulling for Butch and Co, but this isn't going to get it done....

I'm guessing even the most sunshine of poster is at least a little curious what's up. Butch hasn't filled a class this early with this many marginal type guys. Even the positive nellys were saying around 14-15 commitments the last 8-10 spots were for the big time guys. Since then we've added about 10 commits and I believe 1, yes 1 is a 4 star. I believe that was Breyon Gaddy and he's borderline a 4*. Its an interesting class thus far for sure.

It wins championships if you know how to coach and develop them well.

Past couple of years while watching UT on TV the announcers would talk about how well Butch is recruiting and give the rankings, to talk up the program and the way the program is trending. This year is going to be weird, to see how they spin it. They probably won't even mention the way recruiting is going for us.

How many scholarships do we officially have left now for 2017? We have 22 total committed as of today. Blair & Raulerson left so that's 2 extra that we wouldn't have had.

That should leave us with ~5 scholarships I believe or very close to that. That would make it 27 total scholarships & that's the number I understood would be available after both Blair & Raulerson left.

Not that we have to be careful now because we're down to ~5 left but we need to be watch who we pick & choose now for the rest of the 2017 recruits.

Hopefully, we can get one 5* player left of the five available. At least I hope we can get a couple of 4* players because we have signed an awful lot of 3* players.

Oscar Meyer is still truckin along. OSU got a 5* DE, a 4* CB for 2017, and a commitment from the #4RB in the 2018 class today.

Best news is no Emory Jones commitment yet.

We will have a top 10 class for most of the regular season even if we don't do a lot of culling the small fish back

Gotta find out where Lewis and McDaniel fit in class count wise.

Just found out Lewis goes to the 2017 signing class & McDaniel goes to the 2016 signing class. That means we only lost one there to the '17 class so we should have ~5 scholarships left now for 2017 & our 2016 class would be completely full now.

Ugh... this is my unfortunate point... the elite are going to keep getting elite talent and compete for the crystal.... our only option at this point with the number of commitments we have is to play as expected, then try to lure some talent on the back end and have to tell kids to look elsewhere, which usually does not pan out so well from a media standpoint.. still doesn't make a lot of sense as to why we are so hyped and trending in the right direction, but elite kids just won't pull the trigger. Gotta get to the SEC championship or the playoff before we get early elite pickups.

Murphy , Breyon and cotman each are a 4 star in at least one major site. So not just one 4 star this week.

I do think some things are odd that we are taking so many but this staff is better with their numbers than I am. no reason to worry. Butch has shown he will upgrade his commit list if someone come along late. Each year we see several guys Butch is early on that poster cry about then they get bumps and people freak out if they start looking around. Never ending cycle that always ends up with Butch Jones laughing on NSD
