Agreed buts it's a business. Guys we aren't even thinking about right now will pop up later and replace guys currently committed in our lower tier. Not sure why anyone even worries about Butch recruiting. This same thing has happened 3 years straight now. Like a soap opera rerun. Omg all these 3 stars. Omg instate recruiting. Omg numbers. Then on NSD we sit here in awe at Butch the magic man

The only reason to worry about it is does this practice have a long term effect. Is it the reason we are struggling with guys closer to home we really want.

I have no idea if that is a reason but I would argue it is very possibly a Reason for it

It really is like Groundhog Day at this point.

I think it's funny that this thread has turned back to handwringing over recruiting when we just landed 3 4*s guy in one week. The class looks a hell of a lot better today than it did last weekend.

There is only 1 "handwringing" post that I see

It's the same folks over and over again. If they see the kid is a 3 star on another site then he sucks regardless of he is a 4 on another. It's the social media era of people don't research their own facts and just see a tweet and say oh he must suck then

Naw momentum was just fine until the lawsuit negativity. So teams were using that and the Bowles accusations to scare kids Ito thinking NCAA would get us and Butch. Combine that with 0 kids drafted two straight years. That was a ton of ammo for teams to use. We are starting to creep back out from that with two of those things now on backburner

I have always felt it was a combination of all the things mentioned here. The lawsuit was a part of it for sure but I think the git shirt Practices have effected high school coaches in our state willingness to be "biased" in helping us out in recruiting. They aren't as awestruck anymore in our staff IMO

I do think the lawsuit paid much higher role in things though than the other factors.

Nephew just texted from his store outside Crossville...met Phil Fulmer. In for some hot dogs, pork rinds and Diet Sunkist. :)

Have we done that instate? Gitshirts should only effect school and area it's at. Only instate ones I can think of were Bruce and Oliver who messed up on their own. I don't see how that hurts instate recruiting. What does hurt instate recruiting is when Nashville is the new hotbed and the prime HQ of the anti TN lawsuit mess came from right there in Nashville. It was in there face weekly thanks to Tennessean

Yes we have done it specifically in memphis but I disagree that it matters even it hasn't happened specifically to one in that specific area to have an effect

High school coaches around here are fans, read this board, and also have strong opinions about how kids should be treated in recruiting. So the fact that they know this is part of butches plan certainly would have an impact on some of them. The closer to the program the more they see the good and the bad. That's my point

"Coach, I've heard UT is in trouble, something about a lawsuit".

It's a small group of people who have got together and are trying to leverage the University into a small payday.

No coaches jobs in danger.
It's not an NCAA issue at all.
No loss of scholarships.
No bowl ban.

It won't affect UT football at all.

Explain in 5 minutes.

Mothers.
"No, the girls may be after a payday but my kid isn't going to be the one arrested for them to get it".

Retorted in 10 seconds.

You can avoid trouble. A lot of times a person ends up in a bad spot because they put themself there.

You can't sell the mother on both.
It's just a money-grabbing girls and the boys put themselves in trouble.

If you go with the boys, then you have to start explaining why you didn't teach them better as the coach.
And what kind of other guys are going to be around her son.

Any major college football program has issues with football players and the girls who "like" them.

As a parent you tell your son to avoid random hookups with women who he doesn't know well. That's all you can do. If he ignores it and finds himself in trouble, don't blame the school or environment. The kid could be serving chalupas at Taco Bell and get into trouble with some strange he met in drive thru. Don't blame someone else. Tell the idiot to keep it in his pants.

Lol SIAP, NCAA misses their own deadline to respond to Donnie Tyndall appeal. Loophole may invalidate the show cause haha
