And you can always depend on CrunchyLeb to frame it in the most negative light, but in some cases a player hasn't developed as expected and it was determined to be in everyone's best interest...yes Leb, even the recruit's...that they go somewhere else.

#sipboyz - players from Mississippi. Generally an Ole Miss hashtag, but CBJ seems to have appropriated it, along with his pick of the Dandy Dozen. :)

Cam Akers-- come on over to #rockysip

Anyone else think the strategy for this class seems to be, "accept commits from anyone we would take and trim as needed"?

That's been the strategy for all of CBJ's classes, and is why this class will look different the 1st Wednesday in February than it does now.

To me that kinda shows uncertainty. Why are we taking lower rated players if we expect to replace them with better ones? Maybe to give the illusion that the class is filling up, so get in while you can?

(Not complaining just speculating. You always want the best players)

This one seems a bit different to me. Maybe its just me not knowing the players as well or us having fewer "staples" at this stage.

Since the roster has been flipped, they have the luxury of choosing players they feel have the highest ceiling, even of that ceiling won't happen for several years. BobW said that last year. It makes perfect sense. No, I don't believe it will satisfy the astronomers.

IMO, Butch inherently trusts his/his staff's/Bob Welton's talent evals. He also may feel a bit weary of playing the games required to land certain 5* guys (Higgins rumors would lend some credence to that). Finally, he may be the type of coach who doesn't want to manage egos once guys sign their LOIs and then freak out because they aren't starting day one and start causing trouble/threatening to walk.

That philosophy doesn't preclude going after high 4* and 5* guys at as many positions as possible, but I think he's being truthful when he says that he wants high character guys. Of course, at certain positions you have to take the risk and grab the most talented player possible, but at developmental positions, you can afford to take the guys with fewer offers but a very high upside.

Target the top 75-100 choices overall by position and prioritize the need. Accept the commitments and let each know the conditions for acceptance. Some will be very conditional to others not having any. Prune the hurd :) as the bigger fish are reeled in.

Or you can be like the other posters on here that assume the worst and stir the troll pot. Those same posters who are no longer on my radar (except when they are quoted) which has reduced my readable posts per page significantly of late.

If you are told as a committed 3* recruit that you can go ahead and take visits, or, that there are other recruits still being targeted for your position - well, you probably need to have a back-up plan.

However, Butch & staff have proven repeatedly that they do not need recruiting sites to tell them which players are worthy of bing Vols.

To quote the great Heinz Doofenshmirtz on this matter: "I have an intense, burning indifference."

Very impressed to see a Phineas and Ferb reference. 👍

One of the best kids shows on TV that also appeals to 40-something Dads.

This years class has more "reaches" than any class before.

From what has been reported I think we took more fringy guys than ever before Because of being handcuffed from the lawsuit and negative publicity. Now that cloud has been lifted I think it's clear we took too many fringy guys but not knowing when the lawsuit was going to end was the culprit For that IMO

Agreed buts it's a business. Guys we aren't even thinking about right now will pop up later and replace guys currently committed in our lower tier. Not sure why anyone even worries about Butch recruiting. This same thing has happened 3 years straight now. Like a soap opera rerun. Omg all these 3 stars. Omg instate recruiting. Omg numbers. Then on NSD we sit here in awe at Butch the magic man
