CheckerNeyland needs to happen once a year. Early in season because if it is cold out it won't work.

Who knows all the times goalposts came down ? 82 Bama and 98 Florida

Agreed. It's one of the best fan looks in all of college football. Penn State's white out they have each year looks cool, but it's nothing compared to how the checker Neyland looks. It has the ability to become one of the great college traditions, imho. Plus the stadium is electric. The games were lost due to coaching and players.

To think an outcome of a game is based on what fans wear is absurd.

I think '79 ND as well as those 2.

Personally, I'm not a fan of tearing down goalposts. IMO, it's a tribute to the opposing team. The home team thinks so much about beating the visiting team they vandalize their own stadium. I just don't get it...and I was at '82 Bama and '98 UF.

It's similar to chanting "over-rated" when the home team beats a higher ranked team. That's actually putting down diminishing what the home team just accomplished.

We shouldn't think of checkering Neyland as a "gimmick". It should be considered a new tradition. Why does it have to be for special occasions? I say do it every game. I mean, it is only for 6-7 days out of the year. Every game is special to me. Only get to see my team play a few times a year, so make every game experience count.

Vandy 85. Tearing down the goal posts isn't always about the opponent. But to tear one down for Fl then the other down for Bama would be the thing to do. I would expect the next time they come down they will be replaced with the kind they can fold down.

Seriously though, checkering the stadium has the potential to be one of the great college football traditions in the country. Anybody who thinks that stuff like that is in any way mutually exclusive with winning, is dumb.

I'm pretty sure that Butch uses pictures of the checkered games in both recruiting materials and in the training complex.
It really looks good on tv.
If fans are worried that it is associated with losing, make the next one against Ohio or Tenn Tech to get the losing association taken away.

Do it for recruiting--absolutely. Fans want to have an influece (legally) this is the way to do it.

I'd say whichever televised game will have the highest audience would be first choice, as long as the influx of opponent's fans is sectionized.

The point about cool weather and people not owning both a white and an orange jacket or sweater is legit. Gotta be warm weather. As for grey and orange... maybe, but only if it's a sunny day--morbid appearance otherwise.

What are the rules for sponsors giving out shirts? Something like Nissan did with the Predator playoff shirts this year. I'm guessing there's some kind of rule against it, but if not that'd be a great way to get an "Orange out".

The orange and white checkered stadium with the checkerboard endzones and the team running through the T behind the Power T flag is the epitome of how awesome CFB can be. Checker Neyland sets us apart and should be reserved for special games, IMO. That probably would be UF or Bama this year.

Alabama men are famous for bringing pom-poms to the football games. Most think that if they will only shake the pom-pom a little harder, it really helps the Tide play better. Let's just let them have that little tradition to themselves.

Definitely. There's something that just makes me sick about that stadium covered from top to bottom in pom-poms. It's worse in person. Then again, everything about Alabama is sickening, so there's that, too. They even ruined Dixieland Delight for me and that's a really good song!
