A little news from John Brice over at 24/7
"Tennessee has replaced former compliance expert Matt Hibbs, who last month took a Sr. AD/Compliance spot with Urban Meyer at Ohio State, with a major coup in landing Jonathan Bowling from Alabama, who had headed up the Tide's football compliance. Bowling already is active for Tennessee, and he's considered among the nation's very best in his compliance role. Think about how well 'Bama has recruited and how little the Tide have faced any sort of NCAA blowback. Bowling has been called a critical component of Nick Saban's program and actually was named a few years ago by a publication as one of the 10 most important people to Tide football success.
So, this is another sterling hire for Butch Jones, who continues to reap the benefits of other key personnel moves this year: Bob Shoop as DC; Larry Scott (see last night's commitment) and Mike Szerszen atop strength and conditioning.
Elsewhere in other campus news, the Vols have been undergoing skill development sessions and I believe have one more scheduled this week on Friday, with camp rolling today. Earlier this week Tennessee's coaches secluded themselves for their annual staff 'hideaway' as they put the finishing touches on camp plans and talked beliefs, philosophies and really delved into the plan moving forward. It's a setting where no phones are allowed, etc.
Continue to hear really good things on Shy Tuttle, whom some despite coming back from injury still believe is the best defensive lineman on campus. Jonathan Kongbo is up around 280 and looks really impressive as he adjusts while Rashaan Gaulden and Kyle Phillips are two who also have drawn praise. Gaulden if healthy should be a full-time starter and Phillips could have a big year as well, per folks on campus.
We noted Emory Jones coming into Knoxville, and I wouldn't expect that to be the only major target the Vols entertain in the next 48-72 hours. I think Ryan is working on another major target expected in by this weekend."
