I don't know much about the Huskies but I sure have seen them getting a lot of pre-season love. It's been ages since they were a team anyone even batted an eye at. I don't watch a lot of West Coast teams because of the time difference, but why do so many people love the Huskies this season? Is it a real love? Like, are the actually going to have potential to win a conference title, or is it just offseason love?

Yeah, man, they seem to be a legit bootstrap program. They seem to have a legitimate shot at the PAC-North. It appears that this is a valid comparison of two programs at opposite ends of the country. Good on Chris Low for recognizing it and checking it out.

There's literally no comparison between these 2 teams. Tennessee is a legit national title contender while Washington is a pretender.

Tennessee has 2 top 5 recruiting classes making up the bulk of it's 2-deep. Washington is a rag tag team of nobodies.

Washington is just lucky they play in a weak conference. In the SEC they would be fighting with Vanderbilt and Kentucky.

D4H, brother, you need to study Pat Summitt's life and her words. The parts about humility and grace, in particular. It's possible to be awesome and respectful of others too. In fact, it's the best way to be.

Wow, I found the article to be very spot on with the parallels between the two schools. While they don't have top 5 recruiting rankings, they are still a talented and well coached program. No way would they be fighting with Vandy and Ky. And the weak conf crap is a joke. PAC 12 is a solid conf

Quarterback Jake Browning started last year as a true freshman, he's very good. Offensive line also returns four starters. Defense should be excellent, led by arguably the best secondary in the country. Throw in an outstanding head coach, and that's why you have all the hype.

Like the vast majority of Volnation members I am a sold out Big Orange fan. The last 40 years of devotion, since I went to my first game in Neyland...Johnny Majors return to Knoxville, has been filled with joy and heartbreak. I belive most sensible folks on this site fully understand where I am coming from. I have Orange colored glasses and I am 99% leaning to the sunny side of the street about the program unless things are extreme.

Like mst of you I am also a huge college football fan and pay pretty close attention to the rest of the goings on from coast to coast. That said...Dobbs4...please shut up.

The Pac 12 may not be the SEC...but you sound stupid. Oregon would probably have a 12 game win streak against us too...they have been pretty strong over this last decade. Stanford would have a winning record v us over the last 12 years...as would USC, and who knows who else. Just accept that other people know much more than you.

You wear your ignorance well saying Tennessee is a contender. I hope we are, but I see a program that is 0-9 against the SEC West, 0-6 against our two main rivals. Being 6-0 against South Carolina and Kentucky does not cut it. Until something changes projecting this program as a contender is ridiculous.

i did feel that last year we had the players to be a contender, but not the gameday coaching. Hopefully, that can be corrected and then we can talk about being contenders.

You do realize that its preseason right? So is D4H wrong in saying UT is a contender? Absolutely not. Take LSU. Why would people predict them as contenders? Alabama blew them off the field last year. They havent beaten Alabama since what, 2011? Yet some consider them contenders, why? Its because of their talent. And like it or not, the 2016 Tennessee Vols are as talented as ANY team in the country. We should be considered contenders based on our talent.

So no its not ridiculous to call Tennessee a contender right now.

What would have happened between the two teams at the end of the season is irrelevant. Nobody can say with any certainty that Northwestern would not have beaten Stanford again. They absolutely could have.

There are only 2 indisputable facts here: Northwestern beat Stanford and Tennessee curbstomped Northwestern. End of story.

Agree, in fact the Tn/Mich comparisons go back several years now.

Both LONG history of winning
We won the championship the year after them.
The long tenured "championship" coach is fired/resigned
Both go long time not being mentioned in the elite group
Both now poised to rejoin it this year.

For all the years Chris Petersen stayed loyal to Boise State and kept them competitive, the big what if was what happens if he leaves Idaho, and goes to a power 5 team. You do realize he is now coaching the Huskies, right? Since you seem surprised, I assume you missed that headline.

If he could make Boise State a household name, him getting Washington back on track is not only unsurprising, but expected. Welcome to Earth!

He took on all comers at BSU, whipped most of them including Oregon twice in Autzen. And during his tenure at Boise his teams
averaged #75 in recruiting. He's got a QB and 9 starters back on offense. They should be fun to watch.
