True enough, but if you only get your news from one or two places, you might ought to hold back on the blanket statements about the entire news media. It would be a little bit like talking to your family and deciding you know how the presidential election is predicted to play out in the public at large.

Absolutely, just looking back at past articles gives you a clear indication. Tennessee was one of the trendy "not Georgia" picks last year. Even Missouri was getting some of those.

This year there are schools getting "not Tennessee" picks. Just like there are always "not Alabama" picks in the West, even though Alabama is usually the favorite. There are always dark horse picks.

We were considered a dark horse but rarely a favorite. Georgia was clearly the front runner by reputable papers.

By almost everyone. Mandel from SI picked Tennessee last year. Shurburtt from 247 picked Tennessee. There were a smattering of others, but those were the two biggest names I found.

The overwhelming majority picked Georgia. A few even picked Missouri. That worked out well.

Or American Cancer Society. They spend more money on Relay for Life fund raising than they do in actual research, all the while paying their CEO 7 figures. I work in the healthcare field and refuse to participate in things like that. IMO, there will never be a true cure for cancer, as there is too much money to be made by organizations like this, healthcare systems, and pharmaceutical companies.

One of the former largest sponsors of Breast Cancer Awareness Week is a company that makes a leading breast cancer treatment drug. This same company owns multiple cancer treatment centers throughout the country (steer treatment how they see fit). Oh, and they own a sister company that manufactures chemicals, one that has been directly linked to causing breast cancer. The Circle of "Life".:censored:

End of rant.

Good info there.

I will say this about Relay for Life, it raises the spirits of the survivors. I did a few with my Mom, who is a cancer survivor. Her and all the others doing the survivor walk get really pumped up about beating cancer. I guess you could see it as a victory parade.

But yeah, corporations purpose it to make money, not cure the people that are making the money for them.

Derek Barnett, Cameron Sutton and Jalen Reeves-Maybin are on the preseason All-SEC first team released a little while ago.

Preseason All-SEC second-team picks: Josh Dobbs, Jalen Hurd, Evan Berry (return specialist) and Alvin Kamara (all-purpose).

Jashon Robertson and Trevor Daniel were third-team selections, giving the Vols a total of nine All-SEC picks.

Look who will be in Nashville Sunday

So why in the world is UT not going to be present at this camp but every big name school in the SEC is gonna be there plus others from around the country? What does Buck and NPA have against Butch?

I understand that it does raise survivors' spirits and gives them a sense of hope. That is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately, so many people are unaware of what is actually going on with these types of organizations. It infuriates me because I believe they are marketing themselves to make people believe they are in fact working to find a cure. The last figures I saw, which was about 4-5 years ago, ACS spends 16% of what they collect toward actual research.

Excellent question. This just doesn't make much sense.

Your figures made me curious about the Jimmy V. Foundation, so I looked it up. Based on information at the charitynavigator.org website, Jimmy V. Foundation spends almost 90% on program expenses. By the way, ACS is listed by this website as spending 60% on program expenses...not debating your 16% figure...I'm sure some "program expenses" are for other purposes than research. Anyway, seems like Jimmy V. Foundation is a much better use of your charitable funds when it comes to cancer. :hi:

Not only does UT have to deal with the local media and police being out to "get" the program, but we also have former players who have turned their back on the school as well. Not necessarily saying that's the case here, but it seems like there are more disgruntled former UT players in coaching/camp/recruiting positions than there are of every other SEC school combined.

I was Looking at all the remaining targets on govols247 and saw all the crystal ball predictions. I know things can change from week to week with these kids but I only saw two 4 stars left that there was ANY SHOT at. I also know butch is a closer but I am getting nervous this year and losing all the un state talent.

CBs are nothing more than what the writers and fans think. Several CB picks are from people that do not have information and go with gut instinct, more often blind homerism. Don't rely on CBs.

This is from Wiki, and yes I know that's not always a very reliable source, but it was the first thing I found just now.

It also runs public health advertising campaigns, and organizes projects such as the Relay For Life and the Great American Smokeout. It operates a series of thrift stores to raise money for its operations. The ACS participates in the Hopkins 4K for Cancer, a 4000-mile bike ride from Baltimore to San Francisco to raise money for the society's Hope Lodge.[12][13]

The society’s allocation of funds for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2010, lists 72% of funds for Program Services (Patient Support 28%, Research 16%, Prevention 16%, Detection and Treatment 12%). The remaining 28% are allocated for supporting services (Fundraising 21%, and Management, General administration 7%).[14] This meets the Better Business Bureau's Standards for Charity Accountability: Standard 8 (Program Service Expense Ratio) of at least 65% of total expenses spent on program activities.[15]

In 2012 the American Cancer Society raised $934 million and spent $943 million prompting a national consolidation and cost-cutting reorganization.[8]

John R. Seffrin, former CEO of the American Cancer Society, received $2,401,112 salary/compensation from the charity for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.[15] This is the second most money given by any charity to the head of that charity, according to Charity Watch. The money included $1.5 million in a retention benefit approved in 2001, “to preserve management stability.”[16] Mr. Seffrin's compensation for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2012 was $832,355.[17]

The Better Business Bureau lists American Cancer Society as an accredited charity meeting all of its Standards for Charity Accountability as of January 2012.[15] Charity Navigator rates the society two of four stars for fiscal year 2011.[20] According to Charity Navigator the society is directed to "eliminating cancer" and destroying it.[3] Charity Watch rates American Cancer Society a "C", stating that the Society devotes 40% of its annual expenditures to administration, fundraising, etc., with the other 60% going to fund programs.[16]

I'm over the instate guys. We had an opportunity to have an incredible class based off them alone. Fact is we recruit national. Can still have a great class. But let's not sugar coat this, we have work to do in securing our borders. Butch has got to work on relationships with coaches instate. I know he held a coaches clinic for HS coaches in Tennessee last year. Did he do that again?
