After considering things, the current class sticks. 17 commitments. Butch thought we had Higgins on July 4th. Ross, the 1st of August. We'll get one in September, and 1 a month till NSD.

Ross makes 18. Sept-Jan, 1 a month to get us to 23. The plan was a huge boom on NSD. Either Gibbs or Chandler. Missing on Higgins means we now get 2 on NSD. Boom, 25!

The end.

My truck just had a confrontation with a snake crossing the road. I doubled back to see if it was our sacrificial cobra for team 120, but alas, the search continues

8 regular season wins would be nothing short of embarrassing

Anything short of 10 regular season wins would be embrassing.

9 isn't any better. That would mean we lost 3 of our 4 big games. 9-3 is a disaster. Its 10-2 or better.

The FLOOR for expectations in 2016 is 10-2 in the regular season with a berth in the SEC championship game. That is the bare minimum for 2016 to NOT be a disappointment.

2016 is only a success if we win the SEC championship.

Tennessee will be the story of the draft next year. That will help us in recruiting much like it is helping Oh State right now. Barnett, Hurd, Kamara, Sutton, JRM, Dobbs, Vereen and others will be drafted. I expect at least 2 of them, if not 3 to be in the first round. Barnett may go top 5. Recruits will notice that. There won't be anymore jokes about TN not having anyone drafted after next year.

4 first rounders. Dobbs, Sutton, Hurd, Barnett. In that order.

My 2 cents on this:

My expectation for this team is 10-2. I believe that we can at least split the 4 toss ups. While 9-3 would be below my expectations, I would still be alright with it.

1. It's an improvement from last season.

2. We can still win the East with that record.

What? I really want to know what goes through some of yalls mind when you say stuff like this. How could losing 3 of the only 4 real games we play be acceptable?

IMO outside of catastrophic injuries, thats a signal to me Butch ain't the answer and we might as well move on.

This team's talent level says they SHOULD go 11-1. They are better than everyone of their schedule other than Alabama.

9-3 would be a disaster. 10-2 would be disappointing but meeting the minimum of expectations. This season will only be a success if we go 11-1 or better.

Time to move past yearly improvement.

This.

Its win big or go home time for Butch. No more slogans or clitches. You got the horses now go win CHAMPIONSHIPS.

That's the point we're at now. Because if Butch can't win with THIS ROSTER then he'll never win anything meaningful at Tennessee.

I'm not a star gazer but um we need a better class than that to stay contenders year in and year out.

I dont get why people are so concerned with recruiting.

The future of this program rides on what happens on the field this year.

Butch has assembled a team with enough talent to win an SEC and national championship. Accomplish one or both of those goals and this program is back on top as one of the elite programs in college football.

Fail to meet those goals by losing 2 or more games to teams you should beat like Florida, Georgia, and A&M, and you can close the book on the Butch Jones era. He might not get fired at the end of this season if we fail to win the East. But we'll know for certain he aint the answer.

Once again, recruiting is totally irrelevant this year. Its our play on the field that'll decide whether we'll be a contender for years to come.

Do you remember this time last year?

Kongbo wasn't on our radar. Byrd was committed to Florida or Miami (don't remember). Callaway was barely mentioned.

That's 3 of our highest rated players. Not many had them in mock classes.

I could keep going with guys like Marcus Tatum and Latrell Williams that became key additions that were not on the radar.

And remember all the guys who were part of class? Okonya? The LB from Memphis? The WR from Alabama? I dont even remember their names.

I dont think anyone knows what this class will be like February 2017. Especially in the face of the type of season we could have. Our play on the field will have a huge impact on what type of class Butch signs on NSD.

You don't think recruits will be clamoring to join us if we start the season 7-0 after beat Alabama in the Third Saturday in October in a 1 vs 2 matchup?

We have the talent to win an SEC and national championship. Do that and the class looks totally different.

Butch will end up killing it in the end, like he always does, on the back of our best season in over a decade.

It's about to happen

Exactly. I think only one class has been easy to follow. 2014. The rest look different July to February

I don't agree with you on much and I don't even agree with this entire post because we can have a successful season without winning the SEC championship but anything less than 10 wins is embarrassing. That would mean we go 1-3 verses our big 4 to have less than 10 wins

Like I've said, we may miss on some top notch talent, but Butch will get good replacements. Also, guys who aren't even looking at Tennessee will wake up when we are playing for a title

I actually agree with this. We can't lose all the bigger games on the schedule again and sell recruits on the improvement.

Honestly I'm a bit baffled on how this staff hasn't been able to sell our first 9 win season for UT in a long time and use it to be sitting on a very strong SEC recruiting class going into the season. No SEC title game, and IMO we know what's next. A coaching search. I also agree UT might drag it out a couple years and not make the change right away, but we'll know it's coming.

I'm not 100% sure 10 wins and playing in the SEC title game gives a huge boost to recruiting, but at least they can sell the idea of playing for a title instead of pointing to hopes and dreams. Does going from 9 wins to 10 all a sudden flip some kind of switch in these top recruits minds? I for one hope so.

I'm curious why we don't see more of these top recruits who are feeling UT already committed to UT. I mean if the SEC goal falls through in Nov or Dec, couldn't they just decommit and go elsewhere? It has me curious if something else is amiss and even UT in ATL doesn't matter at this point, at least as far as recruiting goes.

Not that Basilio would know , but he is saying he doesn't think Hart is still here for the football season. Anyone else hearing that? The reason is he might try to sway support if we have a successful season. I say kick him and Cheek out ASAP.

JMO, but cheek out is the best news so far this year for UT.
I would like to see Hart get more time in a cheekless Tennessee to see how he operates without a booger coated albatross around his neck....

I have no issues with Hart. He's not been perfect but I don't get the uproar

Fired Dooley
Got Butch
Adidas to Nike
Tyndall looked to be a good coach, but Hart missed the dirt
Hired a proven coach in Barnes

Also gave Butch green light to hire Shoop which was uncommon for UT,money wise.

He's doing just fine IMO.
