True, but so many of our fans complain if we don't play the toughest teams every year.
Of course those same fans then turn around and compare the number of wins as if it's apples to apples.
So I'm at a loss.
Just because of fsu their schedule is tougher ooc than vols..and isn't lsu-ark pretty much the same as bama-txam?
. . .I'm also part of what I am sure is a minority that would like to drop ALL of the permanent cross division rivalry games. I can respect that some consider the Bama game as a sacred tradition.... I'd just rather win championships.
Possibly true, but this is the last year Florida will schedule any FCS schools. UF made the scheduling policy change in 2014 and this was the last year of any contractual agreements.
There are a number of Florida gator fansites.
Why do you wanna spend all your time here slobbering all over them?
Not that I don't hope that UF gets pounded into sand every time they take the field..... but WHY?
Until there is a real playoff, it simply doesn't make sense to abuse your roster that way.
Money and recruiting:
1.) Fans don't have any interest and won't pay to come see it
2.) You get no national coverage for playing an FCS. National coverage gets you noticed by recruits from areas outside the schools normal footprint.
3.) No upside - if you win, so what? If you lose you get roasted. Definitely doesn't help in the polls.
Next year Florida trades out UMass for a national kick off game against Michigan in Dallas.
Florida only lost to Vandy once. Once was enough
couldn't believe the number of non sellouts gators have had in the last 4-5 yrs..think athlon's said 2015 4 sellouts more than all of muschamp era...not just a uf phenomenon either..students don't go to the games in anywhere the numbers they used to, and ticket prices have probably doubled even accounting for inflation..throw in how great the tv experience is and perhaps not surprising
Don't worry, both of the Vandy fans will never let you forget it. I remember when Vandy beat UT twice in a row and Vandy fans were strutting around saying stupid crap like "I don't even know if we can consider Tennessee a rival anymore. They just aren't on our level."
The attending PsyD I used to work under was a Vandy grad and I never heard the freaking end of it.
TV contracts and conference TV networks have resulted in a bloated inventory of games. Mobile distribution channels led to being able to watch the game somewhere other than in front of your television, without having to brave 90 degree heat in September.
Back in the 90s and early 2000s you didn't have the option of streaming games on your phone or tablet, and to your point the home viewing experience back then is nowhere near what it is today.
All that said, there's no excuse for students not to show up for games on time, if they bother to show up at all. UF's student section has gotten soft.
All that is true and a good point about lack of student participation, tho I wonder perhaps the florida athletic department is disconnected from the student body? IDK, just wondering. Also, don't most schools still provide student tickets included? Is Florida different? What does UT do , anybody? Students cant afford a whole lot as I recollect, and in my day tickets were covered by student fees, why wouldn't you go? Has that changed?
bammer favored by 3 over Vols.
UGA favored by 1 over Vols
Vols favored by 4.5 over A&M.
Not sure what the student ticket policy is at UF these days.
When I was a student in the 80s, UF charged $30 for season tickets, or $5/game for 6 home games.
The recent lack of student participation is an odd phenomenon. Regardless of who we're playing there's always a noticeable hole at the top section of the east stands that doesn't fill in until midway through the first quarter. If we're playing a cupcake that section never fills in.
I watched some of em. Like the one Trey Burton scored that ridiculous TD.
I just knew we weren't good so I paid it no mind until Saturday and if no other good game was on I tuned in.
Why be invested if your team sucks?
Tennessee football gave me no reason to have any faith till 2014 when Butch signed that first top 5 class and Josh Dobbs emerged against South Carolina.
That's when I realized this team might have something special.
Brent Hubbs just called the fact that Tennessee is a double-digit favorite over Florida right now "mind-boggling".
Do you all think that your players are ready for the expectation that have been set on them?
I ask this because no Vol team has had expectations like this, in the last 5-10 years. How do you think you're team will respond when they have been patted on the back and told how great they are going to be, for the last 8 months?
I only ask this because it seems like UGA gets the same love every year and they can't live up to it.
