Yeah..I give it a thumbs down too. I don't like feeling this way. I felt great about this season, till all hell started breaking loose. You guys acting like everything is just fine are nuts. This year is not going according to plan at all.

The only plan is the man upstairs. We're along for the ride. Updated and downs my man. Enjoy the journey because we're gonna straight punk some teams this year.

I'll worry about recruiting in January. Until then I have my concerns but will remain optimistic.

Simple yes or no question.

Should Butch be on the hot seat if he doesn't win the East this year?

That is not the relevant question. It will be a question of when. Recruiting is suffering already because kids are buying the BS line that he is not a good coach. It will get worse and we will lose the ground we have made up in talent. He will be fired eventually if that happens. It shouldn't be this way, but it is.

I wish I could remain optimistic..I envy you guys that still are.

If we don't win East, we will start going back down hill in recruiting talent which will ruin the progress we have made. So I tend to disagree. We will be the laughing stock of the SEC and it'll be used against us. No excuses left.

What if UF or UGA has a miracle 2013 Auburn season and goes 12-0 and we go 11-1? Or 11-1 and we go 10-2?

Butch shouldn't be on the hot seat or even remotely close to it unless it's clear that he's no longer improving the program and is in fact causing it to regress.

There's no scenario in which Butch should be on the hot seat with, say, an 11-2 record with no ATL appearance but a Citrus Bowl/Sugar Bowl/Cotton Bowl win and a top 10 postseason ranking.

Also, I think the team could be very good in 2017, and Butch shouldn't be on the hot seat heading into that year if he wins at least 10 games this season. The lines of scrimmage will be flat out dominant, and who knows what QD/JG can bring to the offense. That team could win 10+ games easily the same way LSU did it damn near every season until 2014. They've made it to ATL many years with nothing but a loaded defense, which we will still have even with the losses of JRM and Sutton.

I can't believe the freakout over one player. Sure it would have been awesome to have Tee represent his home state school but Tee does not make Tennessee. The Vols will be fine without him. There are other high quality receivers out there and Butch will land a few. One player does not make a team. We'll be fine. I'll bet Tee, if he does end up signing with Clem's son will always wonder "what if?".

He'll never be able to come home and be celebrated like he would Ave if he was a Vol. Look at the players that didn't end up staying home. They're not nearly the heros that the ones that did. Look at Leroy Thompson, Randall Cobb. While highly respected they never had that hometown hero status. His loss IMO.

Exactly why I said this bs about having to win big to recruit well is horse manure

There is basically this constant debate on here about the star system. All these wonderful stats people post to support why stars matter only to be followed up by somebody else's stats that prove stars don't matter. Here's the thing, we know some 3-star and 4-star players become good-to-great players. Is it dumb luck finding which low-rated recruits have the best chance of panning out? All 3-stars are not created equal. I think our staff, (whether it is CBJ\Bob\other people behind the scenes) has shown the ability to identify lower-rated guys that have a higher probability of turning into good-to-great players. That helps. Win lots of games. Get lots of media hype all season. I am certainly not going to dull my enjoyment of the here and now (which is our best team in a LONG time) because of insecurities about what MIGHT happen in the future IF we don't recruit better in 7 months. But if that's your cup of tea, ruin your present enjoyment.

The whole "if Butch can't win it now, he never will" is an overreaction. Look at Dabo. He was the king of empty 10 win seasons for a long time. Then he got over the hump in 2013, but it still took him two more seasons to capitalize. It happens.

If their fanbase was impatient, he would have been fired after losing 5 or 6 in a row to Spurrier and they would be hoping for a 9 win season in 2016.

Sounds like something I said in 1997

"If fulmer doesn't win a natty this year, he never will."

I'm not asking for a national championship, just an SECE title. Reasonable. Needs to happen.

Recuiting is in a rut. Not winning the East IMO this year and the bottom falls out of it.

Unless you're a new coach with a vision like Butch when he got here, that statement is more often than not true. Recruits want to be on teams that win big.

I could be wrong but I don't remember that working in the SEC. Dabo plays a weak schedule every year where you can get over the hump with less talent.

It is not over one player InVol. This is the cumulative effect of bad news upon bad news upon bad news. Give me some real great news...come on. We getting Gibbs? We getting Smith? We getting Chandler? Are we getting any WRs at all worth a crap?

UGA 2007 comes to mind for this team. Would people riot if we go 11-2 without making it to ATL but blast a team in the Sugar Bowl and finish No. 2/No. 3 in the nation? Should Butch be on the hot seat with kind of finish?

The hole win the east benchmark is stupid

We could lose the east by going 11-1 or we could win it by going 9-3

Surely to goodness no one here would choose 9-3?

If we win the East, we better win the damn SECCG.

Mizzou making it to ATL twice in a row did nothing for them. UF making it to ATL and losing to Bama did nothing for them.

If you make it there, you need to win it.
