I get why people are disappointed, but some
of the doom and gloom seems a little premature. I'm not trying to pump sunshine, but everything is still all out in front of us. We as Vol fans know we are turning the corner, but the team still has to show it. Tennessee has to prove that they can win the games that matter and do it consistently. The Georgia game last year was huge, and it was a great moment, but you have to look at all this from a high schooler's perspective. Tennessee had a nice win over a rival, but they also choked against UF and OU.
Meanwhile, Clemson is a favorite for a national title having just come off the title game and several years of really solid success. Clemson is already OVER the hump. If you're a high school kid and you want to win a national title, there's Clemson,
who was a hair away from doing it in a year they weren't expected to, and there's us, whose best season in nearly a decade was winning the Outback Bowl over a Big Ten team and finishing ranked 23rd.
As far as Georgia is concerned, there's ALWAYS hype with a new coach -- especially one who is held in good regard, as Kirby Smart is (whether it's warranted or not is yet to be determined). Everything is a clean slate. Georgia is running on Kool Aid right now, and things can quickly change if the hype doesn't translate. I mean, for goodness sake, remember when Stoops was tearing it up on the recruiting trail for Kentucky? Eventually you have to deliver results to keep that going.
So that's where we find ourselves. Tennessee has to DELIVER this year. They can't offer immediate playing time like they could a couple of cycles ago. They don't have that new coach smell anymore. Tennessee has to show they can be what Jones has been selling since 2013.
Do that, and this all takes care of itself. All of it. Tennessee doesn't need Tee Higgins to beat Florida THIS YEAR, or Bama, or to win the East, or win the conference. It's all out in front. The Vols can write their future. I have faith that they're going to write us a very bright one this year.
