Can't discount the value of peer recruiting the past few years. Legacy recruits like TKJr, Vic Wharton and KMac lit it up on social media and made it cool to come rebuilt UT. This recruiting class has had no vocal leader and the lack of peer recruiting, especially among in-state kids, has hurt. Top recruits decommitting and in-state commits choosing another program has made it easy to negative recruit against us.

When the season starts and the wins build, things should change. The Battle at Bristol will be great publicity and a win over UF in front of a loud sell-out crowd should swing momentum in our favor.

LWS what is your opinion on the Higgins fiasco today? Why did every single person close to the program say Tennessee was in a good spot? I just feel like we've all been spit on by one of our own the way this has been handled.

Yes, and we also need guys like Barnett, JRM, Sutton, Hurd, Kamara, and even Dobbs to become household names for the 2017 draft.

Unfortunately NSD is before the draft, but Butch needs a 10 win season under his belt AND proof that he can put large numbers of players into the league every year.

No guys drafted two years in a row is mostly an indictment on Dooley, but that's low-hanging fruit for opposing coaches when it comes to negative recruiting.

Yep, last year gave other coaches more ammo to use against us. Ironically, Sutton and JRM returning cost us draft picks... though their return is better for us, big picture.

IDT 10 wins will get us to ATL-- not if UGA or UF is one of those losses. I know there's a lot of disagreement about this, but IMO, the difference between 10 and 11 wins is a gamechanger for this program. Those UGA and UF games are huge.

Agreed. Butch will have the last laugh in recruiting if he has 7-8 guys lined up to go in the first 3 rounds AND an appearance in ATL under his belt. That will give him roughly two months to work on any of the recruits he wants before NSD. All negative recruiting against him will be nullified at that point and he can essentially say "I told you we're building something special here" to recruits and their families...and the proof will be right in front of them.

It's hard to play under pressure to win big when no one in The program has had their feet to that fire.

The way recruiting is going this might be our one chance to dance. Afraid 2016 might be as good as it gets under cbj

Chicken little.

10-2 will be good enough for ATL if we beat UGA, because we win the East in a tie breaker.

That's how I see it, too. Break the UF streak, beat the Dawgs, get to ATL and see how far Team 120 can take it. We'll see positive movement then. Right now, we're having to fight a perception that can only be fixed on the field. The season can't start soon enough!

If I read that any more TN recruits are visiting Clemson or talking about Clemson I am going to throw up. What a day, should have been a boom. It does feel like Sunday after a huge loss. Hope Gibbs is still feeling VOLS.

I felt like that at first and then remembered it's just July 4th. If we have the kind of season we all think we will have, then I don't think today will matter much.

I can't buy into that. Same thing was said last year when the class was kind of mediocre a few months before NSD. Most swore UT winning 8-9 and a good bowl showing would easily get us back into the top of the SEC recruiting wise. It didn't happen. In fact, it looks like it's actually declined even more since then. I understand why some fans always claim it will change shortly. 9 wins, picked to win the East. Some media saying a national title contender. Meanwhile recruiting just keeps slipping.

Looks like we may have underestimated how strongly Amari Rodgers and Hunter Johnson are recruiting against UT. I know Amari has daddy issues, but what is HJ's beef with UT? Did something happen in his recruitment that caused him to decommit and left him with hard feelings? With Tee on board, they're really going to ramp up their negative peer recruiting.
